BAGS! Huge mistake LaRussa... I was ready to see Ankiel come in to face Berkman, and you're lucky that Bagwell didn't jack one out.
You have to imagine that LaRussa just said... "look guys... good job today... at least we were competitive. NOW LETS SCREW THE CUBS!" If they were managing for a post-season spot, they wouldn't have done what they just did there... that was BAD managing.
Kind of what I was thinking. Giving Baggy a juicer right down the middle on 3-0? I'm thinking the Cardinals don't want the Cubbies in the playoffs. And I don't mind one bit.
if i hadn't seen lance berkman run the bases last night, i'd call suppan's 3-0 pitch to bagwell right over the plate the stupidest thing i've seen all season. for all intents and purposes they were unintentionally intentionally walking bagwell and then after 3 pitches they decide "hey, lets just groove one down the middle and see how far he hits it." unbelievable. and bagwell's speed as a first baseman comes up big again as he is able to score from first on a double that bounced back to the outfielder pretty fast. and i'm not sure why suppan stayed in to face berkman or kent. they were lacing those balls off him. now bring someone in to get as many outs as they can before someone gets on and then bring in lidge.
