I think SamFisher is confusing this guy with someone he met at FurryCon17. The word in the hallways was that they played a lot of "Custodian" in the "stick out your can for the garbage man" sort of way.

anyway, is it *at all* even possible on the books for West to be creating a big bolus of contracts for Shaq? After he signs Cardinal, can he trade him, or isn't there some mandatory time that must elapse...

The Griz' had better win now, their depth will take a major hit next year. I don't believe they can re-sign Swift, and next year their free agent class is Bo Outlaw, Earl Watson (their excellent backup PG, should start) Shane Battier, and Pau Gasol (who's going to get the max).

Donut team in the making. Unless they get Shaq.

G-Gori Cardianl did remind me of something, one of my tougher opponents which iss why I admired him:

I think I'll trust Jerry West on this one.

Either you overpay for guys, or you get nothing. That is the dilemma this year. What would you choose for the Rockets?

I also think they might be going for Shaq...

I don't understand. We have the Bird rights to all of those players and don't have to lose any unless we want to lose them. Bo Outlaw is getting dealt this season probably with Bonzi and Watson for a MAX level player probably or better parts with longer contracts.

I know every one thinks that Memphis can't spend that kind of money but our owner is a freaking billionaire with a sweet stadium agreement. Luxury boxes are sold out for the next 10 years. Every high dollar season ticket level is sold out. If they keep winning, he will keep spending IMO.

West likely has other potential deals waiting, but Cardinal can't be part of them until Mid December.

84. When can't a player be traded? Can players be given "no-trade" clauses in their contracts?

..............In addition, teams cannot trade players under the following circumstances:

* For two months after receiving the player in trade, if the player is being traded in combination with other players. However, the team is free to trade the player by himself (not packaged with other players) immediately. This two-month restriction applies only to teams over the salary cap. (Also see question number 71 for a special case where players can be traded together in less than two months.)
* When the trading deadline has passed. Teams are free to make trades again once their season has ended, but cannot trade players whose contracts are ending or could end due to an option.
* For three months or until December 15th of that season (whichever is later) after signing a contract as a free agent or draft rookie. (Note: This does not apply to players who sign contract extensions or who renegotiate their existing contracts. These players may be traded immediately.)............

Not unless they want to pay massive luxury tax.

Resigning them all to top dollar contracts is simply not feasible for the Grizzlies and probably any team.
