I once had an angry Frenchman throw garden shears through my passenger side window on the highway near Nice. Scary moment.
Definitely manufacturer's defect. I've seen it happen too often the past year or two. Trade it in and get a new one.
Just get it fixed. No one's gonna want your busted up Jalen. It may not work the way it's supposed to but it's worth more than anyone will give you for it.
Thanks! Looks like I'm going to need this info. Can you share the stuff you saw about the other model years? Mine is a '22 so probably not a lot on those specifically, but anything more recent than '11 would be helpful.
Trying to file a claim for it through Ford, but it seems likely to be denied. If you Google this, there are hundreds of such instances (and even a full 2017 report from Consumer Reports) but in every single case it ends the same: neither the manufacturer or the dealer pays for the repair. Their PR statements on the matter always say something like "We abide by all the regulations from the NHTSA regarding our windows." Which is ok, I guess, but that's not actually the ****ing point here - the point is about whether or not your window, which, yes, abides by the regulations - puts people in harm's way. The biggest offenders are apparently Hyundai and Kia, with Ford not far behind. Seems like most of the time it's the rear window or the panoramic moon roof (which sounds much worse) instead of a car door window. Dealership-recommended glass guy (who, fwiw, seems like a good an honest guy) wants $382 to fix it. I'll call around to see if others can do it for less since I expect Ford will deny it and won't cover any repairs (the exterior paint also got scratched in several areas from the falling glass).
Call local salvage yards to see if they have a glass from a damaged door. Usually on new cars they wont take a glass out from a non damaged door as they sell the whole door to body shops. Just call around and ask, they may have one thats nicked up and you may get lucky for cheaper. Of course youll have to find someone to put it or do it yourself.
Send this to local TV station investigative reporter divisions. This seems like the kind of story they would like to run with.
Save your receipts. When the class action lawsuit drops, you'll be able to submit them for reimbursement. It's only a matter of time.
I honestly think that's not an impossible case for the OP. OP, did you have the window slightly rolled down? I ask b/c at certain speeds, with certain window configurations, you can develop these wild pressure oscillations. At highway-ish speeds, I've seen those really move glass like crazy.
Windows were rolled up. Moon roof was closed. It was actually the Mrs who was driving but I imagine she did scream.
I was driving down I-10 in a brand new car once on an extremely hot day and a small amount of water was trickling down from an overpass that had construction being done on it. Between the temperature difference of the two objects and the speed I was traveling, that tiny bit of water cracked my front windshield. I b****ed at the dealer but to no avail. Sorry but I still haven't gotten over it.
**** no bro. If that exploded while my wife was with the kids I would've gone to that dealership and John Wicked everybody.
@Haymitch I am starting to think that you did not ask about exploding windows when considering this purchase (?)
I always thought this was a standard question that was asked by everyone. @Haymitch are you some kind of MORAN?? Anyways, it happened to my wife's car less than a year ago. I figured it must have been a pebble or something that got flung by another car. It didn't make any sense whatsoever and no temperature changes going on either. It happened on I-10. It happened on the rear drive window. She has a Nissan Rogue. I thought this just one of those rare of occurrences and didn't think about b****ing to Nissan about it. To be honest, I'm just glad the CVT Transmission is still holding together and that Nissan extended the warranty a bit longer for their shitty transmission. I told my wife we are getting rid of this car as soon as it goes over that mileage. My Maxima's transmission exploded at 55k miles when it was at the dealer. I sold it shortly after that event.
