My daddykins just got an FX 35. We were told by a bunch of car enthusiasts that Infiniti offers the most bang for the buck. It has this sweet reverse camera to prevent you from running over your neighbors dog, duck or garden gnome. I think its the best looking SUV- design wise as well.
I got a BMW 528i last year and I've loved every second of it. I've never driven one of the SUV's, but every Beamer I've driven is smooth as silk. If you talk to most people that own one they say they'll never buy another brand of a car, and once you drive one for a while you'll understand why. If you go used, get one that includes maintenance. As mentioned maintenance is expensive on BMW's. Mine has free maintenance for the first 50,000 miles, but I'm not sure what they give you on certified pre-owned.
Not at all, but from anecdotal evidence it seems like the BMW's where I live have an extra gear: "asshat." The driver puts it in this gear before running stop signs with children present while texting, stopping four directions of traffice in an intersection with the dreaded "O Turn," or double parking with about six feet of space between his precious paint job and the legally parked car, effectively blocking the road way for all traffice while he gets his double non-fat latte.
I agree. I drive an 06 330i, I love that car. The handling, smooth acceleration, and power you get. All BMW'S have free maintenance for the first 50,000, it is worth the money.
I have had w BMW's personally and I have enjoyed both of them. Yes the expense of a used one withouth warranty will bite you in the ass but the feel of the car is amazing. I had a 540 and now I have had an M5 for the past 2 years and couldn't be happier. My mom got an X3 last year and it has been good to her. BMW's need a bit more pro-active maintenance then lets say a Honda but that's just the nature of the car. Like previous posters have stated, try and get one with warranty and your life will be a lot easier in the long run.
I got mine used with about 5k miles on it, and it's great. Certified, and the maintenance warranty was the same as if it was new. The only thing i regret was not paying the extra $1k to extend the maintenance warranty. Standard maintenance on BMWs are expensive and the extension is worth it. My dad just bought a used BMW and bought the extended maintenance warranty to go with what was left on the new maintenance warranty (which is separate from the normal new car warranty or CPO warranty). Some people have bought lemons, but most people I know have been very happy with their BMWs. That being said, my wife and I just bought a Lexus to replace her old car, and that car is awesome, too. The car we get to replace my BMW will be a Japanese car, if only to avoid the expensive maintenance.
I wonder if you only notice the asshattery because of the car? Lots of people can't drive or park... Personally, grandpa in the towncar doing 12 mph down Westheimer gets my goat. I don't need to do 50, I will happily tool along below the speed limit.... but why must I slam on my brakes because you can't find the gas pedal? ASS - BMW's? Make mine a twin turbo 6 and a standard. And make my first 48 payments... fine machines.
It's a good question, and I'm sure there are plenty of BMW drivers (including ones on here clearly) that drive just perfectly fine. But just today the dude going 50 on this tiny neighborhood 25 MPH street, while talking on his cell phone, with a group of 5-yr-olds on the sidewalk... was driving a new BMW. I hear you on the slow drivers who can't even see well enough to drive, etc. Maybe the BMW drivers are more skilled than that and their cars are so fun that they like to drive fast, skip their turn at a four-way-stop, etc. But I do think it's correlated anyway. I only notice the insignia once I look to see who's (for instance today) so impatient for me, my wife, and our puppy to cross the street that he nearly severs my wife's achilles tendon in his rush to show us how much it sucked to wait for us, pealing out at top speed. Meh. Probably a combo of SF people / BMW drivers. It's an expensive town and to keep up with those kind of car payments demands a certain... intensity I suppose. I'm clearly the '98 Corolla driver here, so I shouldn't even be posting in the thread. But for those of you driving your BMW's, just know people are watching. Do the rest of us proud, you hear!
Haha. I live in SF and drive a BMW. Living in North Beach I have to be a careful driver due to all the slack jawed tourists gawking and taking pictures without watching for traffic. I've had some close calls with people crossing the street on Columbus without looking or noticing they have a red light.
new bmw before you are even done with college? ...wow. if your parent got that kind of money to blow, then go for it. However, you can get a very good car for much less. When i finally did buy my own car, i was so excited about getting a new car...in hindsight i wish i would have gone used and saved the money. As for the car itself, i would keep away from the bmw for the fact that maint can be a b**** and pricey. Then again, if your parents are going to pay for it you have no problems...milk the geezers
If you are buying new, then BMW includes free maintenance. I have owned 3, once you drive one, its hard to go back to something else. Although I don't see much point for the X3, either go with X5 or a sedan.
