I didn't look closely, but the X5's interior may be better than the 5 or 3 series. There's certainly a difference between the 5 and 7 series leather and wood quality. I just saw the specs on teh IS 350. I think it's too small in the back. I want to keep the car for 8 or more years, and I'll have passengers. Looks like a damn fine car tho.
I don't need any extra performance from BMW. At this point, I'm dinging it pretty hard based on luxury and interior. It's still the best performer on the market, and the 335i will probably just push it that much further ahead of the competition.
I'm feeling a bit MacBeth like in responding to each post, but with my post count, nobody's going to accuse me of padding or being an attention w****. Coming into this, I was worried that a Lexus might eventually annoy me because it doesn't handle like a german sports sedan. I still have that concern to some degree, but it has been overshadowed by my annoyance at the 5 series interior, primarily the leather, idrive and wood quality.
Or how about the Avalon is a poor mans LS? Have you ever driven the LS? Its an amazing and beautiful car
Rileydog - I think you are coming at this from the right perspective. The % of time that superb performance is going to come into use = 20%-25% of the time...a quick acceleartion here or there, some tight turns, and the occasional joy-ride. Unless you are racing on the weekends, or are just crazy cause you think you're the next Andretti or something. Percentage of time you'll be sitting in the interior of the car when in the car = 100%.
Well I was involved in an accident yesterday and I can safely say that the bmw saved me from major pain. I was at the richmond intersection with the loop and in the left/straight lane where a surburban was trying to go straight in the left only lane. I saw the surburban out of the corner of my eye trying to go straight and was able to jerk the steering wheel back to the right and accelerate to avoid a t-bone into the driver door. Instead all I suffered was a broken side mirror. I can truly say that the short turn radius and the acceleration was good enough to avoid getting seriously injured. I know i would have been creamed in my camry or my parent's GS300 as they just don't respond the same way. mom's GS300 is a 2002 so not the same model we're talking about here.
Maybe you were still thinking about that "wench" who flirted with you the other day? Sorry to hear you got an accident and glad you are OK.
Come to think of it I did talk to her before I left work yesterday and she said to "be safe" I did not heed her warning
great choice! of course this is from my perspective only. Biggiestuff, sorry to hear about your accident, and it makes me feel better that you mentioned bmw being able to handle the near collission vs another vehicle....of course the driver has a lot to do with that too
Iv'e driven the ES and other Lexus vehicles, and driven the Mercedes E350 and its the finest thing I've ever driven along with other Mercedes I've driven as well. I'm a Benz guy I'm biased against other Luxury makes/models.
Driver does help definitely but I know how my camry is and i know how my parent's vehicle drives as well. They would never have been able to take that right fast enough to get almost parallel to the other car in time. I guess I"m used to driving and reacting fast so that definitely helped. I can't rember which car slogan it was but it was something that "sometimes the best safety features are the ones you never have to use"
biggiestuff. glad you're ok. meogi and kingcheetah - you may not give a crap, but this is one of the biggest purchases I'll make except for my home, so I'm going through this with a fine tooth comb. and everyone that has posted here has provided some valuable food for thought. As a former ramen eating, flea market working, student loan swallowing, no life having, state school attending kid, I'm pretty damn shocked and proud to be buying something nice. Save your "this is making me sick" for the freaking rich kids that had help from Biff and Mitsy. (my sincere apologies in advance if you were kidding around, but it didn't read that way and this is a pretty damn big deal to me..) to everyone else, thanks again. I'm going to get the 2007 GS 350. should be a damn rocket to drive when it comes in in Sept.
Congrats on a beautiful car. In that class of cars you can't really lose. All are great cars . Didn't even know they were coming out with a GS350. Nice indeed
agreed, no matter what you choose, you are getting a luxury vehicle worth every penny! Congrats on your decision making process coming to an end! you will def enjoy your new vehicle when you get it
Great choice. You can't go wrong with either car, but just make sure you don't start regretting you didn't pick up the 5 instead! What's done is done
