There are at least three different Pakistani Talibans (Maulvi Nazir's, the deceased Baitullah Mehsud's and Hafiz Gul Bahadur's). They are undoubtedly further subdivided into multiple quasi-independent groups. There has still been nothing about the bomb maker from Waziristan who made the audio tape having anything to do with it. basso moron. or basso thinks all brown people are the same. I'm not sure which. And even if he turns out to be the guy, it doesn't matter. You still were incredibly willing to believe someone who has lied in the past because it fit your preconceptions. If your mother is prepped for lifesaving surgery tomorrow morning, and you sell everything you own to get the money to pay for it, but the night before take that money and go to the casino and drop it all on a number on the roulette wheel, and by some miracle of luck you happen to win, that doesn't make you a genus. It just makes you a really lucky ****ing idiot.
more Holder: In an interview on “This Week,” Holder said that the U.S. needs to exam whether the current rules regarding Miranda warnings give law enforcement agents the “necessary flexibility” when dealing with terrorism cases.
Dude, you are way over reacting, there was a bomb attempted on times square, it was claimed by a terrorist group. This is actually one of the legit basso threads in D&D.
muck mark faints. [rquoter]White House To Slash Terror Funding For NYC Lawmakers Stunned By Development; Rep. King Calls Move A 'Slap In The Face To New York' Sen. Schumer Demands Department Of Homeland Security Reconsider Reporting Marcia Kramer NEW YORK (CBS) ― The White House plans on slashing funding to keep New York City safe from terrorists. The news comes 11 days after the Times Square terror scare. When you think about it, it's a move that seems to defies logic. Less than two weeks after the failed Times Square bombing attempt, an attack believe to be hatched by the Pakistani Taliban, terror funds are being cut. The official numbers were released Wednesday afternoon. "This is definitely a slap in the face to New York," said Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), the ranking member of the House Homeland Security Committee. What King is angry about is a decision by the Department of Homeland Security to cut funding for counterterrorism in New York City just days after Faisal Shahzad tried to detonate a car bomb in Times Square. The move cuts funding for area mass transit security by $42 million – 27 percent – and for port security by $11.2 million, or 25 percent. Officials said the move will affect efforts to beef up security on subways, buses, bridges, rail lines, and the ports themselves. "That money coudl have been used for tunnel hardening, it could have been uses for communications systems. It could have been used for detection equipment. It could have been used for training. That's $40 million that was cut on port security," said King. "We have book keepers in the budget office that are putting dollars and sense before human life. New York Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer released a statement demanding Homeland Security reconsider: "For the administration to announce these cuts two weeks after the attempted Times Square bombing shows they just don't get it and are not doing right by New York City on anti-terrorism funding. We urge them to reconsider this decision. Instead of distributing funding all over the country, they should focus their attention where the greatest threat exists, right here in New York." CBS 2 learned President Obama will visit NYPD headquarters in lower Manhattan on Thursday afternoon. The president will meet with members of the NYPD to thank them for their work in handling the Times Square bomb scare. Later in the evening, he's scheduled to attend a Democratic fundraiser. NYC got its terrorist funding slashed under the Bush administration too. I wonder what the government has against NYC.
One thing I don't get is if this guy was affiliated with a professional terrorist group, why his bomb wasn't assembled in a more professional manner? (I really haven't followed this thread or story much, but it was the one thing that didn't make sense to me.)
yeah, it's so weird. you'd think they'd increase the budget consider this is the 4th successful/attempted attack on the city. I guess Obama wants to give it all to Chicago!
no, he was just napping [rquoter]White House: Reports of NYC Security Funding Cuts Are "Wrong" A day after New York lawmakers slammed the Obama Administration over plans to cut Homeland Security funds for the city, the White House hit back, saying New York will actually receive an increase of $47 million for port and transit security this year. The additional funds won't come from the Department of Homeland Security, but instead are being doled out through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act -- the stimulus act passed by the Obama Administration last year, said White House spokesman Nicholas Shapiro. ...[/rquoter]
i happy he changed his mind, but not sure this is the right use of those funds, since it doesn't "save or create" any jobs.
This response doesn't make sense on two fronts. First, he didn't change his mind. It seems obvious that the stimulus funds would have already been allocated before they decided to reduce the funds from DHS. Second, why wouldn't this funding save or create jobs? It takes people to perform this work, does it not? Also, the recovery act wasn't solely about jobs, it was about pumping money into the economy, and purchasing supplies does that as well.
