When's the last time Okafor played meaningful mins on an nba roster? I hope he makes a comeback he's a really nice smart guy and the more successful Houstonians in the league the better. I think we should put in a bid for Boozer once amnestied and sign O'Neal. Milsap learned a lot from Boozer and now he's a legit too five pf. Jones has more potential imo and Capella will improve with practicing with Dream and Dwight Bev/ Johnson Harden/ Gee Ariza/ ??? Boozer/ Jones/ Capella Howard/ O'Neal/ Capella
He played 79 games in 12-13 and averaged close to a double double in 26 minutes. I dont know if he has some serious injury that will hurt him for the rest of the career, or if he just needed to sit out for the season to recover. He could be one of the best signings in the off-season or he could be Marcus camby part 2. Low risk, high reward.
He would be an awesome get. Not sure if he has the foot speed to chase the Blakes and Dirk types but he would punish every other pf in the league. Last I heard he had a herniated disc in his neck under the watch of a New York spine specialist. I hope he's recovered and can resume his career cause he'll be a steal, I can already imagine the mix and match lineup when we go big Harden Ariza Jones Okafor Howard We wouldn't be scoring a lot of points but we wouldn't have to. Imagine if they came out the locker room after halftime and this was the adjusted roster against the blazers LoL
cyberx, not related I know, but can you give us some insight into how the conversation between Daryl Morey and Les Alexander may have gone down during their decision making process not to match Parsons? - Was Les wanting to resign Parsons but got talked out of it by DM? - Did DM want to resign Parsons but was told no by Les because he was not a true superstar? - Were the Rockets Angry because Parsons fielded other offers? - Do you have any insight as to why the Rockets made did not exercise Parsons option? Was there an agreement between the Rockets and Fegan as part of the Dwight signing? - How will this affect Dwight's decision to stay in Houston beyond 2016? Thanks, I'm just trying to understand the dynamics of the decision. Signing Parsons would have left the Rockets about ~6 million below the Luxury Tax Threshold so I'm having hard time believing that this was a money issue.
I know you're not asking me. Just an opinion. But I feel like Les Alexander bought into Morey's plan to sign a 3rd star this year hard. Understandably. And made peace with the outcome. I think he was more than willing to pay the luxury tax but is satisfied saving money and dumping Lin/Asik. I also think he mandated that Morey reacquire Lin, eventually realized Lin wasn't great, and has decided to stop interfering with Morey's direction.
We could really use a breakout season from a kid like Capela. If he can develop a jumpshot, then we can sell him as the perfect fit next to Pekovic.
Yes. With some bulk, he might become the answer to losing Asik. There's bound to be a low-cost way of getting him here and seeing how much work needs to be done. I say, bring him over and take a look. D-league helps a lot of players adjust attitudes about what is needed to make an NBA roster. If his work ethic and passion need adjusting he'll adjust... or just fade away. Thabeet 2.0? Possibly. But you never know 'til you put 'em in action against real NBA talent. I think he'll show "flashes" of talent, but also have his weaknesses exposed. At the time, picking him probably seemed ho-hum to most of us here. Is it possible the [immanent] trade of Asik made it more important to the Rockets than we knew at the time? To me, the best part of his "rawness" is his speed AND length. Of course, his speed might suffer after bulking up a bit.
Ummmm.... hasn't the case/problem always been that Capela planned to play this coming year... and the Rox planned on stashing him for another season.... now, I guess one is to ASSUME that Capela is planning on being with the Rox by their request (which would make sense cause we now have the capspace)... but after the whole Bosh thing.... do we really want to assume anything...? lol
... and to give a more extended preview... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=D29d4g1C80Y
Rockets next SL game is at 5PM tomorrow night so I'm assuming (since he's in Vegas and needs to get some work in) that they'll probably wait till the very last minute, and sign him sometime in the afternoon tomorrow. They will wait as long as they can because of free agency and any potential deals that could come their way in the next 24 hours where it benefits them to have a little extra cap space. That's obviously a long shot, but I'm sure they will take every precaution. There is no reason to sign him before they absolutely have to.

Rockets to sign first-round pick Clint Capela for next season http://t.co/YBHMuUto83
— Jonathan Feigen (@Jonathan_Feigen) July 14, 2014
[rQUOTEr]After weeks of uncertainty about their plans for their first-round pick, the Rockets are working on signing Clint Capela in time to begin his NBA career next season. The Rockets have been working with Capela on his buyout and FIBA letter of clearance, ending the idea that he would remain in Europe for at least another season, a person with knowledge of their decision said. Because contracts for first-round picks are slotted, there is not expected to be issues with signing Capela once he and the Rockets work through the FIBA clearance. Capela attended Sunday’s Las Vegas Summer League game but was not in uniform. He has not been on the Rockets’ summer league rosters in Orlando or Las Vegas. The Rockets selected Capela with the 25th pick of the draft last month. They had been non-committal about whether they would prefer he remain in the French League or make the jump to the NBA, saying they generally like to develop players in their system. Capela, however, has been steadfast that he wanted to join the Rockets this summer. “We are still working to get him to be a Rocket officially,” Ndiaye said. “We have been talking back and forth with the Rockets and myself. We’re trying to get him signed. I don’t know when. I guess we’ll do it soon.” When the Rockets needed the cap room in their pursuit of Chris Bosh, they might have needed the savings that would have come from not signing their first-round pick, but his cap hold is roughly only $400,000 larger than the empty roster spot so keeping him overseas would not have initially created much more cap room. “We are planning out roster for next season,” Rockets vice president Gersson Rosas said. “We expect him to be a part of it. We’re in the process of working toward that.”[/rQUOTEr]
Yes! I'm excited for this guy. He definitely has the potential to be paid the max by another team in a few years.
