The notion that Parsons alone recruited dwight is asinine. Dwight came here to play with one of the emerging stars in the league, not because of pretty boy parsons. That's like the people that say "o my god!!!! pat riley was such a genius by recruiting lebron!!!" Completely ignoring the fact that lebron wanted to play with 2 top 10 players, not be "tutored" under riley
DJ Augustine toasted us....why did we let OKC pick him up and we went after a 37 year old. I wonder if other teams are getting tire of Morey's act and are willing to take less just to screw us.
You can't just say in a vacuum that morey should have gotten him. The 76ers got offered an asset that we have nothing close to. Same with the bucks, the dragic trade is the only one you can realistically complain about.
It was a joke, somewhat like your user name. but seriously, didn't Fegan force us to let Parsons out of his Team Option in exchange for Fegan letting us sign Dwight. That's the story, no?
Morey has done a lot of good, and i'm not a Morey hater by any means, but the fact of the matter is that this season is on him, plain and simple. First, he elected to keep Kevin Mchale despite the fact that he is essentially a known quantity at this point. I'm not going to detail his weaknesses here because you could pull up a myriad of threads on this site dealing with, what are at this point, his well known deficiencies. Second, he neglected to get a viable second ball handler for Harden which is obviously our biggest weakness as a team. A 37 year old and a rookie who can't shoot and is going to be a free agent after the season are not remotely acceptable acquisitions for a team ostensibly making a title run. It's obvious Morey is punting this year and is putting all his eggs in the basket of Durant or some other big FA at some point in the future which is a strategy that worked out great with Bosh and Melo. The fact of the matter is that you can never overestimate your window as a title contender, for even the chance of a FA two years in the future. Howard is beginning to slow down and probably is in the twilight of his prime, while injuries along the lines of Paul George could (god forbid) happen at anytime derailing the trajectory of the franchise. Morey did a great job getting Harden and Howard to Houston but if the Rox cant get out of the first because he couldn't surround them with an adequate coach and a league average point guard then what was the point?
You don't have to even say "willing to take less." Your conspiracy theory is enough to just say "all things remaining equal, GMs won't trade with Morey, and Agents won't recommend him to clients." Besides, Morey doesn't overpay.
Pretender...not a contender. Mr. Clutch do you really think this existing team with Bev and two 37 year old PGs (and Dorsey starting for the rest of the regular season) is a contender?
Agree with OP. In hindsight we should have at least picked up Mo Williams who could provide some much needed scoring off the bench. He only have 1 year left at $3 million and we are better off operating over the cap this summer anyways. Shved and a second round pick could get it done.
I really do wonder how the narrative would've changed had Bosh indeed signed with us. Would Morey still be criticized?
He will be criticized no matter what. Actually it just depends on the last game. If we win tonight, garm says we're the favorites
Morey not addressing the PG position is a pretty glaring mistake, but overall, if anybody is not content with how the team has done thus far without Dwight in the lineup for a majority of the games, their expectations are grossly misguided. Morey's done very well.
