I'm sorry for the Rockets fans who missed out on a great season. (I'm an Austin resident with League Pass) Despite dwelling for a while in the land of mediocrity, I believe that the Rockets management has tried hard to put forth a good product. It's too bad they aren't a majority owner in CSH.

The Astros on the other hand are not even watchable. Hardly any of the players seems to care. At this point, with the Rockets season lost, I'd be up for signing a counter petition. Holding the line here may be what's best for customers in the long run.

The costs will get passed on to us and do we really want to pay extra hundreds of dollars per year for channels we'll never watch? Aggies watching the Longhorn Network? Longhorns watch the SEC network? Big East network?

Holding the line here may be what it takes to prevent being held hostage for the content that we really want to watch. Crane shouldn't be rewarded for moving the team to the AL and doing nothing to provide watchable content this year.

Is there any place to reliably watch the Astros? Like the links for the Rockets that streamed in HD?
If not, mlb broadband work fine with a vpn, when in Houston?

Let's be real. Ain't no one about to watch these stros for another 3 years. Let them fight over it. I'll only care when the Rockets come back around. Especially if they do pay for play crap.

Just because YOU do not care to watch the Astros does not mean "ain't no one about to watch" them. I for one would love to watch them, if only I was allowed to

I think something that gets lost is that the providers are still in contracts with foxsports. so they have to pay foxsports for the rockets and Astros and then csn. that's a key hold up and these contracts aren't expiring soon

As you all may know, there is a free preview of the MLB Extra Innings package on Directv this week. Well I wanted to watch the Stros last night, but got the Blacked Out message. I live in San Antonio, so can someone tell me why I would fall under these blackout rules? Isn’t the blackout only for in market teams? Am I considered in market(?) and if so how come I cannot watch them on the regular channels? I understand that CSN does not have a deal with DTV, but is that somehow effecting me too? SMH at this BS.

I know that I was able to watch Rocket games on NBA League Pass through Directv, so how come I can't watch Astros games that are through the same network?

MLB territorial rights for teams are far more expansive than NBA territorial rights.

Isn't it the other way around? We routinely get Rangers' games here, and I know Dallas got their fair share of Astro games back when I lived there (granted, going on seven years ago). Meanwhile, I can't ever recall having access to Spurs or Mavs games here; or Rocket games when I lived up there.

I think you misread MadMax. Rights to broadcast MLB games extend to larger areas.

So your saying the same issue of CSN not being on Directv in Houston is effecting SA customers/fans as well?

It has more to do with all carriers rather than just DTV. The Astros broadcast rights extend throughout most areas of Texas, parts of Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma (maybe others I don't' remember everywhere it reaches). Anyone in those areas that doesn't have a provider that has a deal with CSNH gets blacked out. I live outside of Houston but in the regional market. That is the worst part to me, the fact that I don't have the choice to swap to ComCast (I wouldn't) and have no way to see any games. This IMO will be the biggest problem for the teams, in that they will/have quickly start to lose casual fans in the non Houston part of the market the longer they go without a deal.

It's already happening in Central Texas. The casual fan is now wearing blue and red. The switch of the RR Express to the rangers was the first shoe to drop. This is the second. Austin quickly became a rangers town. It's sad seeing all these people wearing those colors, while the brick and sand t-shirt hangs in their closet. Winning and being on tv will get some of them back. Unfortunately, neither of those things appear to be close to happening.

I'm highly optimistic about one of them not so much on the other. I'll leave it to you to decide which is which

Since there is absolutely no reason to believe they will be back on TV anytime soon, I will assume you think the rebuilding effort will be a smashing success in the next year or two.
