I'll answer this one because my wife asks me the same question. It's because we think you look really sexy in them...and if you've been married for seven years, anything that fosters this is good.

Personally, I am extremely grateful to the clothing manufacturers that invented stretchy pants and tight skirts and all other materials that cause visible panty lines. Thanks to them, I don't have to worry about this debate anymore - I have won by default.

Oh, and as far as comfort goes - I hear that some boy shorts-style panties avoid panty lines showing - and they look really sexy too.:D

In regards to females attempting to dress "sexy" at work, I honestly feel that there is a time and place for certain fasion trends. Being a female in a predominantly male industry, I have to be careful to dress in a way that will get me viewed as a "professional" and not some guys eye candy. Do I want to look nice at work? Most definitely. But do I want that to interfere with the way men view me as an employee or have it possibly be detrimental to the job I have and the respect I deserve? Definitely NOT.

In terms of thong underwear, sorry Isabel, I'm female and I can't imagine wearing anything but thongs. Once you start wearing them all of the time, you'll never want granny-panties again!!

And it'll get easier once you've seen one naked, Mr. math-student, computer-game player.

This infatuation with g-strings (thongs) amuses me. I think the fashion that millions of women embraced in the '60's and '70's were much more feminine... the braless generation was a pleasure to experience. The girls I knew were completely lacking in any self-conciousness. And they were unhesitanting when it came to skinny dipping where it was allowed. Those were cool days.

There are a few amazingly hot women here at work, but this is a point of contention with the guys in the lunchroom. You see, most of the women here are bulldyke butterhogs and we can't figure out if the few "hot" ones are really that hot or if it's all just relative.

The thing that really pissed me off is that I work in a 2 story building on the 2nd floor. The women on the first floor are all incredibly hot and the women on my floor are so ugly, they could make a freight train take a dirt road, and I say that with the greastest of respect.

Whatever..... Chicks dress like that because they want to get noticed plain and simple. They like the attention and know that they have all the power in the world. They toy with a mans brain all day and then go to HR to complain about those same men harassing them. Women hold all the cards in office politics.

I saw it happen on a daily basis at Dell.

Drive up in a new Porsche and see what happens.

Although womens' appearance and mens' indications of success are not what solid relationships are built upon, it's a primary way our species (or at least our culture) goes fishing for prospects. Neither sex should be demeaned for it's natural role.

    DOG,

That is quite the unfair statement. Simply because a female wants to take care of herself and look nice she is asking for harassment? Just because a female is wearing a skirt, it doesn't mean she is doing so to get attention. That is women's way of feeling "dressed up." In the same instance, just because a man is wearing a suit or a tie to work, does that mean HE'S asking for attention?!

And as for women holding cards in office politics?? You know that is bull. Just look at this post. Simply because we dress one way, people assume the worst of us. We have so much against us in the professional world we have to prove ourselves above and beyond qualifications in order to excel.

1973... getting on towards the end of the era. The "bootleg" (director's cut) of this flick gives an excellent idea of what it was like from the perspective of a 15 year old posing as 17 or 18. I was about 22 in '73. The way people dressed was far more "out there" than what they depict in "Almost Famous". My hair looked a lot like Jason Lee's (I'm not nearly as tall! ). Kate Hudson really nailed the way I remember women being from about '67 to the mid to late '70's.

Disco pretty much sealed the end of an era (Thanks, Travolta! ), although things had begun to change a bunch by 1973. You have to remember that I'm going by personal experience... I'm sure there are people who lived through that period and didn't experience what I did, either because it was their choice or because they just missed it.

Sleeping together was part of the lifestyle. I was asked numerous times if I wanted to spend the night with a chick instead of the other way around. (not that I was shy about asking!) And the music was unbelievable... amazing and cheap. I saw Jimi Hendrix 4 times in Houston and the most I ever paid was $6 for 3rd row center.

So was rent. I had a garage apartment behind a huge duplex that dated from decades before, that was 2 blocks from Herman Park, for $65 a month, bills paid. Across the upstairs landing (think Seinfeld) of the double garage apartments lived a beautiful Hawaiian girl who went to Rice that was a good friend. Upstairs in front lived 5 girls, downstairs was a merry-go-round of hippies. Life was good.

edit: hey, what's up? We can't show images any longer? Did I miss the message?? :(

Actually we do dress up to get noticed, at least I do. If I had it my way I would wear old jeans and t-shirts everyday, and I try to as much as I can. If I'm dressed up at work I probably have a meeting where I want to impress one of the participants. I don't feel better when I'm dressed up, I feel fake. The difference is that most men would care less if their dressing up garnered the attention of someone that we didn't want it from. We will generally just blow it off. It is a price we are willing to pay to get what we want.

Also, you are really kidding yourself if you don't think that there are women out there that use sex to get what they want. Whether it's actually commiting the deed or just implying that it could happen. Just the thought of sex will make most men forget what they are thinking about and then proceed to do things that they normally wouldn't. Why do you think stripclubs make so much money. The men their don't actually get sex, but they still pay $10 for a beer and $20 for a woment that they have no chance with to sit on their lap.

I agree that women do often get a raw deal in the business world and it is unfortunate. Alot of that has to do with what I said in my previous paragraph. Just know that sex sells, and if you plan to use it, plan on getting the unwanted responses.

I don't know if anyone did anything or if it was a fluke, but if anyone did... thanks.
