In basketball, everyone's goal is to score where the opportunity presents itself. Francis's job is to score as well, but his primary duty is to run the offense, just as it is paytons. If the Sonics wanted Payton to be a primary scorer, they would free him up from the point and let him get the ball after it's been brought across half court.

That's what they did with Iverson. Since his job was to score, they moved him from pg to sg.

You're right, the player defines the position. Mobley is a scorer, so they moved him to sg from pg where he more naturally belongs. That's why they traded dickerson and kept Mobley, because even though Dickerson has a better outside jumper, mobley was the better scorer.

I don't think you get that concept.

I just want to point out that this thread has turned into an arguement about whether or not people should score in the game of basketball. First it was about whether or not one of the Rockets should try really hard to score. Why don't we just start a poll:

Scoring more points than the opposition, Good or Bad?

Take a look at what you are typing people!

I'm not falling for that one. If we tank every year, we could get more Hakeems and Yaos.

Of course, many overall first picks can bust, but we'd have the best college team in the NBA!!!!! Maybe we should just lose every game and start handing out diplomas... What a supremely humanitarian effort!!! And think of all the academic banners we'd have hanging next to the two championships.

Ah, screw it. Just give me a bunch of guys that try REALLY hard to score. At least 1 extra damn point a game, please!!!!

THINGS THAT ARE SERIOUSLY FREAKING ME OUT

    by LeGrouper,

    1. mamojama has only four posts but registered in septemeber of 1999.

    2. mamojama chooses one of his four posts in his three year tenure to be a response to one of my posts that in no way responds to anything I said.

    3. mamojama wants us to get 1 extra point a game please!!!!

wow, I hope you are a troll man

I'm new and need some posts under my belt so here goes:

Let me say howdy to everyone and my quick response to Believe's post is that Mobley can be as selfish as he likes as long as he puts the rock in the hole which he has done pretty consistently so far.

As I recall, another somewhat selfish player (#23 in Chicago I believe) was often cited as demanding the ball and chastising team mates at practice (and on the floor) when he didn't get it. He also had quite an agenda of self promotion. Nobody seemed to care much though.

Okay Mobes is no MJ but he does have a game and it's one I think the Rockets can capitalize on. His enthusiasm is pretty fun to watch too.

Okay, so it wasn't exactly a quick response.

Sure I responded to something you said (barely.) I was debating the merits of scoring points. Despite all of the temptations associated with not scoring, I decided that scoring points = GOOD. Especially when we have 1 more than the bad guys each game.

I just wanted to be the first person in the poll (sniff-sniff.) I suppose I should really lay off answering the rhetorical questions though. Bad mamojama...

Well I didn't mean to chastise you, only wanted to point out what was freaking me out. If you're really not a troll, but someone who registered three years ago and just started popping up again, then that is great. It is good to have you back. And yes, that was my point - it is in fact better to have at least one more point than your opponent in each game. Just ask the Lakers.

Wait a minute, you have got to be a troll, who are you, really, either you have moderator power or you registered your troll three years ago and remembered its name. Bad mamojama....

    Good mamojama...

Who cares when someone registered and when they decided to post, fishman? I lurked about here at least that long and didn't register until last March. I wish I had had mamojama's good sense. I missed out on a lot of good threads (and there are some around at the moment... I'll withhold comment on this one). People do things at their own whim and in their own good time.

    Again, who cares?

I'm just searching for some benevolent positrons.

(Denmark rocks. If there are female trolls and they were Danish... well, they would have to be gorgeous trolls. Uh, that sounds a bit bizarre. Nevermind.)

That's right folks. Post #6 is worthless. Double digits here I come. Someday...

T-Bar- You are definitely entitled to your opinion...and I agree with most but 3

    1. $ for $ the most bang for the buck does not make the guy selfless...just meant he really couldn't have gotten a better deal.
And you don't need to tell me about his integrity, his publicist
    will do that for you....

    2. Yeah so like Vinny Johnson, Cuttino should be a sixth man

    5. Actually if we had Eric snow as the PG I wouldn't mind Cuttino hogging the ball so much but unfortunately we have Francis who has about same time of game.
