Hey, sorry that happened to you. At least this way it's not your fault. All the good stuff has already been said... about drawing unemployment, blessings in disguise, commiserating, etc.... but best wishes for the future. Use this as an opportunity to go for something you would really want.

Because, if I do it, I get a lump sum check on my last day that is roughly equal to 6 months of my salary. I would be stupid not to do it.

bladeage, from what I understand, unemployment is about $360 a week. Not much, but better than nothing.

What kind of job was it? Was it a career job...or some "job" job?

If you're a professional (meaning, not some young guy working at Kinkos or something like that), get unemployment and get those damn resumes out there man. Screw the 360.

Drink this weekend...wake up early on Monday, get in the unemployment line on and then work on the resume and hunting the rest of the day/week.

    Good luck man!!!!

Be sure to file for unemployment on Monday because you do not get back unemployment.

    What???

NEVER file for unemployment. It will seriously hinder future employment.

    Here's what to do:

Get your ass on a job site, and mass send out your resume. Take the first job that hires you, and keep sending out the resume. Nothing is more attractive to a potential employer than someone who already has a job, and is simply looking for a better opportunity.

P.S. MB: Sorry bout the wedding. Next Sat.?

How does that affect future employment?

Layed off and the 360 died? That really blows. It has been a hard time. Just rest, regroup, and try to find a way to make it improve, by getting a job that like better.

    Sorry about the though luck.

Kids again next Saturday. We are going to be closing on the house soon (week or 2?) so I'll have to get back to you again on a good weekend. After we move, things are going to dramatically slow down for us, thank God, so we will be able to do more. It has been a whirlwind of craziness for WAY too long lately.

Now is the time to get that job you always wish you had!

Are you an idiot??? You freaking pay into unemployment and it is your right to file. It does nothing to your future employment. If anything, it shows responsibility. It's not a benefit...it's a right.

The same thing happened to me 5 years ago. I was unemployed for a while and then got a job in a totally different area, and honed my skills there. Now I own my own practice.

The day the guys came from Boston to tell us they were shutting us down was trying.

    It will get better...believe me.

This is simply not true. I know many people who have gotten laid off and when they went looking for new jobs, their unemployment compensation status NEVER came up.

Not for me...not for my friends...not ever.

Yeah. I'd love to hear the rationale behind that one.

Give the guy a break, I'm sure he's going to start looking but he just got canned. He just needs take his mind off of it right now, endless 360 play is a good remedy. Sooner or later, the sheer boredom of doing nothing will get to him.

Wanted to ask though, anybody ever got fired, maybe because of violating policy and procedure, and still collected unemployment? I got shot down by TWC one time because of some OSHA rule crap I supposedly violated. I didn't feel like fighting it at the time as I found another gig soon after.

And since we're talking about xbox, I have a worthless original xbox (not 360) that flashes red and yellow light of doom. I took it apart and disconnected the HD and the DVD Rom and it still did the same thing. Think its a power supply issue or motherboard issue, but it's toast. If anybody is an expert on fixing these things. let me know, otherwise it's trash. (I checked youtube and various internet sites, no dice).
