I think the anger is misplaced in this thread. You shouldn't be offended at pictures of soldiers coffins, but at the discrimination that is the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy. That's what's offensive.
You know what, maybe it's time some people got offended. Maybe it's time we don't look at the status quo and say, "It's okay". Maybe it's time to make people realize, in the harshest possible terms, that we, as a country, are treating homosexuals as second class citizens, and it shouldn't be tolerated anymore. Maybe those men and women died for the freedom of all Americans, not just the straight ones.
you obviously never served in an infantry unit... No females allowed for a reason. Men in an infantry unit live in a tight group where many things are done together. Do openly gay men live in different barracks? Do they share the same head...etc
lol.... out of 800 men in an infantry battalion im pretty sure a gay soldier/marine will find one man sexually attractive.
Again, moot argument. The clear and unambiguous evidence shows very clearly that it can, has, and does work all over the world, every day of the week, irrespective of your own personal bigotry. The facts don't lie. Fear-mongering in the face of irrefutable evidence to the contrary is a characteristically absurd right wing tactic. If any solder, male or female, sexually assaults another soldier, male or female, that is what is known as rape. I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but it is already a violation of the UCMJ.
The picture wasn't really the thing that got me annoyed. It was the first two comments that got under my skin so I think I judged the initial message as being used as a weird joke. I do agree with the initial message though. And as the "second class citizens" part of your argument.....Idk. There issues we need to fix concerning rights of gay Americans, but second class citizens.....ehhh I'm on the fence about that.
What's wrong with both being offensive? The point was valid, but using that image to drive it home was in very poor taste.
I haven't seen any indication that the people who are upset with the image are also upset at the discrimination against homosexuals.
