Hunter Thompson says go with Johannesburg .... I can't exactly figure out why Maybe I should go smoke something and reread it. http://espn.go.com/page2/s/thompson/020430.html
If there are any other "Horse Players" here that use PP's, DRF.com has the Derby PP's for FREE (you need Acrobat Reader to see them) http://www.drf.com/crown2002/derby/pps/kentucky_derby.pdf Good Luck to all (especially the ones actually betting)
MAJOR NEWS UPDATE: Churchill Downs Buddha out of Derby with bruised foot By DAVID GRENING LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Buddha, whose victory in the Wood Memorial made him one of the top choices for Saturday's Kentucky Derby, was scratched from the race with an apparent bruised left front foot, trainer James Bond said Friday. Bond said Buddha appeared off in his left front when he came out of his stall shortly before 5 a.m. Friday. While X-rays had not yet been taken, Bond said he believed the injury was a bruise. "We'll do what's in the best interests of the horse and wait for another day," Bond, choking back tears, said at a 7 a.m. press conference on the backstetch. "It's very disappointing for my clients and myself. Buddha will have another day." Buddha is owned by Gary and Mary West, who last year ran Dollar Bill in the Derby. Dollar Bill had a rough trip and finished 15th in the 17-horse field. Bond said "it's unlikely" that Buddha would run in the Preakness on May 18 at Pimlico. His voice trailed off as he talked about coming so close to running in his first Derby. "I always said I wouldn't come to the Derby unless I had a horse that could really run,'' Bond said. "This horse is special so it's hard." Dammit Gotta go with Saarland now.
What was the line at the time of the bet? 15 to 1? If so, that would be a $300 payout if Perfect Drift wins. The odds for all the horses will change right up until the start of the race. The exact $$$ winnings will be determined by the final odds.

I bet a couple of exactas (among other bets), sure would be nice if I hit one of them Saarland-Harlan's Holiday and Medaglia D'Oro-Perfect Drift An Exacta is a bet for the exact finish, 1st and 2nd place. Wish me luck. Anybody else put money on the race?
Not to quote myself, but... I'm a friggin genius. Although my particular horse placed second, patriotism did rule today. 2 horses with patriotic names (okay, War Emblem is a little bit of a stretch) finished 1st and 2nd. Maybe I should change my name to NostradamusSux (spelled correctly this time)...
I considered it but didn't want to drive out to the horse or dog track... didn't even investigate online betting.. maybe next year.
I lost 20$ on perfect drift, but god damn it, that horse was right there. He just couldn't turn it on down the stretch.
I was wondering. If you pay 1 million for a horse how do you make your money back. Even if the horse wins a derby you only get a little over a million. If you consider how much the trainer and all the other stuff costs, I just don't see how you could profit. Where's the money at? What part of this story am I missing.
