Yao is not injury prone. How about that?

Yao's played in 75 out of a possible 80 games so far this year. Add in the next two games that they're keeping out as a precaution and he's only going to miss 7 games this year.

I think the whole Tracy situation has made people a bit over zealous with the terms "healthy" and "injury prone".

As several people have cited, he's had two bizarre type of injuries over the last three years that have kept him out for a good chunk of the season. Other than that, he's been pretty reliable for a guy his size.

This reminds me of the Matt Schaub situation. Everyone says that he's injury prone but don't bother to look at what caused his injuries i.e. two or three cheap shots that cost players big money

we're not building a team SOLELY around him. we have a lot of pieces, and a lot of young pieces that we can look forward to the future with.

    by 2010, hopefully we'll have a true superstar :D

If Yao has another foot injury, then it may be time to think about trading him.....

I love the guy, but if you can not count on him to play, and let's face it...7'6" and 310 pounds are hard on the feet......it would be time to review all the options.

He already has 2 screws in his feet, and if this is another case of his body breaking down.....then dang...got to do whatever is best for the Houston Rockets.

I will say though, that if it turns out to be a major deal...then Adelman should be shot for playing him such long stretches.

Adelman should use Yao every 8 minutes per quarter. This means Yao gets at least 32 minutes but Adelman sometimes plays Yao the whole 3rd quarter and like 5 minutes of the 4th which is just horrible..

Did you see Aldeman coach when he was with Sacramento?? If not then let me say he is a coach who is in love with his starters. He over used them then and his coaching style hasn't changed.

I hate it, you can see Yao getting tired around 8 minutes into the quarter, then there is a timeout, and Yao gets a little refreshed and Rick leaves him in...

FRICKEN TAKE HIM OUT !!!! Bring him back the last 7 to 8 minutes of the 2nd quarter...and the same in the 2nd half.

Morey is his boss, he is responsible too.

Aldeman is using Yao Ming the same way as he did with Brad Miller, except Mill isn't 7'6

Exactly, this is the way to play Yao so he can get the best rest possible while playing solid minutes. This is how we should play Yao:
1st Quarter - Play him the first 8 minutes, rest the last 4.
2nd Quarter- Rest him for the first 4 minutes, play him the last 8 minutes
3rd Quarter - Play him first 8 minutes, rest him for the last 4
    - This gives him about 24-25 minutes for the first 3 quarters which is good and I hate it when I see the box score at the end of the 3rd quarter because Yao always seems to play 30.
4th Quarter - Rest him for the first 3 minutes and play him the final 9.

This all together gives him around 33-34 minutes.

i still think the in game minutes reasoning is brough tup more than it should. Players often practice harder and longer than in games. Like some players say, you practice hard so the games seems easier to you. There's also only 48 possible mins in a game, but they may be having practices for 1-2 hours. Of course if you're practicing a lot, then playing extended minutes in a game may be the last straw for a body part and cause injury, but you have to manage the real cause, which is practice, and that's already being managed.

I still say he's got to lose some of that leg mass ansd gain some upper body strength, similar to his body type, i think, 2 years ago. Imagine going through a workout with 20 lb weights strapped to your ankles, the landing would never be pretty.

I didn't mean to cause a tidal wave of indignant responses by claiming that Yao is injury prone... I just thought it was accepted that you had to be careful with his unique physical limitations..

Why are people just assuming that he will miss the next two games?? Where did guys get this information. HE most likely WILL play in the next two games. 77 out of 82 is not bad for a big man.

Players Play....Coaches coach.... and the General Manager brings in the players for the coach and the organization. Where is Morey responsible for Rick Aldeman's handling on giving guys playing time??

Thats like saying Morey going up to RA and telling him to play Steve Francis right away because he is the boss. The GM doesn't have say so on how the coach uses his players.

There are numerous occasions where a GM steps in and forces a coach to play someone, or to adjust his rotation.

Morey is the GENERAL MANAGER...do you understand what that means? He is the TOP dog in the organization, everyone but the owner answers to him.

Oneal used to take rest/injure a lot during the season, and going full strengh at playoff. Yao should do that too, rest 20+ games every season, however rockets barely make the HCA, dont have that kind of confident yet.

He gets beat up a lot in the low post and refs still don't know how to make calls for a big man like Yao. He's got those scars on his arms to prove it.

Maybe he also put on too much muscle which has made him too heavy for his legs. When he first came into the league, he was a little faster. Now he has just slowed down... Or maybe he just aged too fast.
