Except none of these people ever claim to be the #1 fan. They just go out and cheer their teams like a crazy person. You're the one that puts that label on them and then hate them for that label that you created. I go back to my original post - it comes across as just a need to feel superior to someone else.

I think it's fine. I went to Trinity University in San Antonio, and the school had no athletic scholarships. If I had wanted to, I could have been on the football team. Other than that 25 lateral play a few years ago, Trinity gets no sports coverage at all.

That being said, I really don't care at all for college football. I have a mild rooting interest for A&M, since I married an Aggie (luckily one of the non-fanatical ones). That translates to watching the UT-Aggie game the day after Thanksgiving and watching A&M lose bowl games.

I do root for college basketball teams, particularly Duke. However, I don't follow college basketball much until the Tournament.

You and I have different definitions in our heads of "fan".

I'm going to leave it at that.

but you're talking about two different things. is a t-shirt fan a fan that cherry picks who they root for or are they a fan that roots for one school even though they went somewhere else? if it's the former, i'm certainly not one of those and can even understand why you wouldn't want to hear trash talking from those guys. i fall into the latter group which if you have a problem with, you really just need to get a life.

You guys sure are full of hate this morning.

Don't see me telling posters to screw off or get a life.

    Oh well...

I guess I should have worded it better. I was trying to use UT as an example, but not an exclusive one. Replace UT with: Yankees, Lakers, Sooners, Red Sox... etc. I.e.... just say you hate [insert team here], not so much the t-shirt fans of said team.

I think the people who dislike bandwagoners really have a problem with the school/team they pick. I doubt most of you would have a problem with a t-shirt Wyoming fan. Or a t-shirt Royals fan. But a t-shirt Jazz fan is a huge problem, mostly because we all hate the Jazz.

Also, people can be fans of Tupac and gangster rap, even if they didn't grow up in the hood. as long as you understand where they are from, the music is universal cause everybody struggles. it's thug life.

Did you know there are boosters that aren't alumni? I guess buying tickets, jerseys, & apparel do nothing to boost the university. Those fans don't do anything for the University.

oh, going that route, huh? you're going to whine about people and then whine when those people take offense at your whining. sounds about right. maybe you should spend less time worrying about who other people are rooting for and focus on your own personal fandom.

i'm thinking of becoming a diehard coogs fan just to make it less enjoyable for you. i already have the t-shirt!

My very best friend is a die-hard UT fan. He has never even been to Austin and from what I can tell, has no personal connections (family, friends, etc.) to UT. Therefore, I consider him to be a bit of a front-runner especially since he doesn't give 2 ****s about any other local college teams. :)

Dude, what is your problem this morning?

I state my personal opinion, which involves NO ONE in this thread, and people come back with personal insults. Awesome.

Chill out. My personal opinions affect you ZERO.

So why are you taking it that way?

    My $0.02:

    1) You can be a fan of a school you didn't attend as long your fandom for other school does not exceed your fandom for your alma mater.

For example, if you're a UNT graduate and root for UT over the Mean Green, you are a douche. If you don't have an alma mater, you're excused.

    2) You cannot pretend to be part of the school.

For example, if you or your spouse didn't graduate from UT, you shouldn't be a member of the Texas Exes.

No, but we do see calling people "lame", "shallow" and saying they can go "eat a bag of hell" (whatever that means)...

Take it however you want man, I couldn't give less of a *****.

If you fall into a group of toolbags I described, that certainly sucks for you, cause the people I'm describing are real jerks that no one likes.

Hope you can learn to control your anger at some point.

so, NOW you're making it personal. so, can i whine about you making it personal after you just patted yourself on the back by saying you weren't making things personal?

i'm just fine btw, it's just a slow day at work. but thanks for caring.
