I would love to know what Yao you have been watching that would make you think he's too soft anymore. Have you been watching games from his first 2-3 years in the league??? The man has developed a killer instinct, i love watching yao go to work down low with a chip on his shoulder. He will bang with the biggest of the boys with a mean look in his face. Yao hasnt been soft for a while now, its time to realize it.

If everyone is healthy, sure. That's just not going to happen.

Yes, definitely. Healthy Yao&TMac + current role players will not dominate the league but capable to win 60+ games. As I insisted, if healthy, last year's Rockets should win closed to 70. They could dominate the league. Without Ron, they will be weaker, but still 60+ team.

This best summarizes things. The team will compete but going all the way might be pushing it given the present situation of the roster.

Perfectly healthy Yao and TMac eliminate the need for this thread.

NO- with our current roster we will not win a championship or very many games.

We are presently severely offensively challenged.

I can't believe people are still harping on the "when healthy" scenario - here is its relative placement on the scale of likelihood, with 1 being most likely, 2 being least likely:

    1. Rockets use ground up fossil bones to salvage DNA code of species of Megatherium, 20 foot tall giant ground sloth common in the Miocene Epoch. Using genetic engineering, a Megatherium is bred in a test tube, gestated and brought to term. Using hormones and gene therapy, the Megatherium has its growth artificially acclerated till it reaches adolescent phase (approximately 10-12 feet full height, weihing approximately 7,000 lbs, which will require substantial shoring up of the floor in the Toyota center)

By the time preseason rolls around, and after a crash course at Pete Newell's big man camp, the Rockets go into November with a starting line up of:

    Brooks
    Ariza
    Battier
    Scola
    Megatherium

The BBS then is immediately flooded with Megatherium-only fan's (MOF's) who subject the BBS to all matter of Megatherium trivia, such as what leaves he had for breakfast, and, if there were some sort of Miocene Epochal team obligation, what percentage of time he should devote to it.

By the all star break, Megatherium reaches full 20-foot tall standing height, develops "tongue dunk", in which it uses prehensile tongue to power ball over foes, and develops Mutombo-esque "Not in my dry grassl- and woodlands habitat" style "Claw wag" . Jack Sikma and others continue to work with Megatherium on keeping the ball up high, and to keep from eating the ball, which generally results in numerous technicals. Rockets continue to rely on using Chuck Hayes against quicker big men, however, especially at end-of-period situations.

Meanwhile, on the BBS, DaDakota and others bemoan Megatheriums inability to run the motion offense, and call for him to spend more time in the high post, so that Aaron Brooks can penetrate. "I'll take 5-10 and PENETRATION over 20 feet tall and SLOW any day of the week, and TWICE on Sunday - DD" reads the post. He begins ranting on his video diary that the Rockets should have turned their genetic engineering resources on some left over Von Wafer sperm which he purchased on ebay from a Hungarian prostitute, and the fragments of Vasilis Spanoulis neck hair still clogging the Toyota Center plumbing system.

Around playoff time, the Rockets are on collision course with the Lakers. Phil Jackson begins his mindgames, complaining that Megatherium drags his pivot claw but the referees are too intimidated to call it. Increasingly bizarre behavior by Megatherium, such as boarding the massive double wide trailer in which he travels wearing only his underwear and a gold chain, is kept hush hush by the Rockets front office. Ron Artest gives a bizarre interview in which he claims Megatherium is not the biggest player he ever played against, stating instead that a playground player from Jamaica, Queens named "Big E Large" was actually a full grown Mastodon, tragically speared on the court by a local hunter-gatherer/drug dealer, but was much better in the post.

Rockets take Lakers in 7, Sweep hapless EC foe in 4, Megatherium, aka "Da Big Slo'" is named MVP. Joy ensues.

    2. Yao and Tracy suit up, play 82 games, continue to realize the dream they started here in H-town.

First thing's first. Yao is not expected to play at all during the regular season or post season.

Tracy McGrady is questionable. He averages like 2-3 injuries a year. So you never know...

So, no. We will not win a championship with a roster filled with scrappy players and role players.

This is a pretty useless/random post but last night I had a dream that the Rockets were playing (I was actually playing in the game too lmao) and we were getting *****ing destroyed.. and in the dream I was thinking "I can't believe I thought we could make the playoffs"..
