Sampson is the defensive guy. He's been known to bite his tongue at times when he's had to defer to the offense.

The adjustments are a team effort by the coaching staff with McHale having the last word and final.

Kevin McHale deserves major credit in this series as he has completely out coached Scottie Brooks.

garcia's defense on durant has really our key in the series. who would've thunk?

it also means parsons is the 4, wreaking havoc on ibaka's defense, and we no longer have to see delfino struggling as the 4.

small ball works vs OKC but it should be Parsons at the 4 and Delfiono assigned to his natural position.

Nice one, especially considering we were down at half time and got the lead soon afterwards.

Sampson is a fantastic coach. I have the same feeling about him as I did Thibs. Not on the same level, but he is obviously a candidate for head coaching jobs next year.

Yes, I think the coaching staff deserves credit. The players (some of them anyway) making the effort also deserve credit.

And the Thunder having lost Westbrook is a major factor too. Now we can concentrate on stopping Durant. Whoever thinks they are better without Westbrook? The Thunder has to worry, not about beating Houston, but about going forward in the playoffs, facing tougher defenses. They lost a lot of offensive firepower with Westbrook gone down.

Totally agree, I watched Harden wave at Durant, he doesn't even try to stay in front of his man. That is called effort, he should get some coaching from Beverly. I'm sick watching Harden play that AAU D. We play better D in street ball.

The coaching staff really did a good job for adjustments after game 1, props to them. Didnt like Mchale during the regular season, now all of a sudden its like he's either listening to his staff or somehow realized he could lose his job if he didn't change something.

Rocket's were playing to protect the lead here, but Iso'ing we are able to control the clock as well as minimize on the possibility of a turnover - fast-break. This is why many coaches run this type of play at the end of a game.

THAT BEING SAID - Harden's decision making needs to be better here. Doing the same step back 3 won't work.

AND the onus is on the coaches to make sure that Harden runs a pick and roll, or some sort of quick play for the last ~10 seconds of the shot clock to free up harden.

I think the only reason why they didn't go pick and roll with Harden/Asik was because they were doubling harden and harden was having turnover problems all game. Not good :\

McHale was one of the greatest defensive centers to play the game, and you're going to say he's NOT involved in the defensive adjustments? Some of you are absolutely ridiculous in your hatred.

It took them long enough. They have been learning and adjusting on the fly.

    1. McHale was not a center. He's a PF.
    2. Being great at playing the game does not necessarily translate into being great at coaching the game.

Magic Johnson and Kareem are two of the greatest ever and they sucked at coaching. None of the greatest coaches were really great players.

That said, I am not saying McHale is a bad coach. He deserves credit for the adjustments in this series. But I am not ready to say that he is a great coach just because he was a great player. He is actually pretty much a rookie or sophomore coach trying to learn the rope.

Defensively, I give props, McHale and the coaches have shown a lot better adjustments then I thought I would ever see from them based on what they did in the regular season.

I wouldn't say they are fantastic because the game played out only slightly better then the previous ones where we had a lead blew in the 3rd or 4th quarter, but this time we held on.

All of our adjustments have been great. Hate all you want, we could easily be 3-1 right now.
