You aren't seeing the cost of Asik. 1) No fast break (Love is an excellent outlet passer) 2) No making Aldridge work on the offensive end, which would've made him less effective when the Blazers had the ball. 3) Stretching the court, which would've given Harden, Parsons, Lin and Bev more room to drive. You can't just isolate Asik's contribution to defense.
You're kidding me. Cole Aldrich? Myers Leonard? Jason Collins?!?!?! WTF? The only good guys in your list aren't available. You didn't list him, but Okafor would probably work - IF he is healthy. Just give it up - Asik is not that easily replaceable.
Most definitely yes. Looks at our need and you should see that 8.4M tied up in a backup C isn't a great return on our roster spending.
The is truth to this. A big 7 footer with defensive capability is hard to find. Speedy wings are many. Parsons is poor on defense too and not reliable on 3. We should keep Asik & trade Lin & lose Parsons if we don't want to pay his asking price.
It's got nothing to do with Parsons. We can sign Parsons to a fat contract with Asik on the books. I don't know why people they they're related. This is the reason. He's leaving in 2015. Sure, we could use him in 2014, but if clearing him out early means we can use his cap space for a great player who won't leave, you should do that. You wouldn't dump him just to dump him -- same for Lin, even if he supposedly isn't worth the money -- you'd only dump him if you get a tangible benefit.
Yes he is. Asik is supremely overrated here. And yes every single player I named could come in and be a part of a big man rotation. Asik will be shipped out of here this season and we will sign some solid back up big men for cheap that will ultimately be just as good if not better than Asik. I would call Asik a big chuck Hayes, but if chuck Hayes has quicker feet and catches better.
Asik and Lin are both goners this off season anyways so I hope you all hold on to all those wonderful memories he has left us with.
Just bulk up Dmo and train him to do all the stuff that Asik does well - plus continue to do all the stuff that Dmo does well. He'll be all-round and McHale might actually play him.
no, asik isnt overrated. is he wasting on the bench? yes. could you find another back up center to play 15 minutes? yes. the point is asik has high value. you CAN get an ok back up center, only if you get an impact starter in return for asik. he's a starting center and top 5 or close to to 5 defender. asik can single handedly make your team have good defense. when asik was off the court in the 12-13 the defense went to complete crap after being a top 10 defense during the minutes he was player. may not blow up the box score, but the guy is very good.
Asik is terribly overrated. He's a 4 mil a year player. Solid starter on a team with three stars, miscast as a guy you want to start and depend in to be a key player. He's a good back up though. Not great.
this opinion is deserves a harden head scratch. defense goes from top 10 to 25 when he's on/off the court and he's not even a starter for 4 million? do you know how much pekovic got? 12 million. asik is at least a 10 million/yr player. you keep saying he's overrated and bring up box scores and mention a bunch of journeyman back up centers as equal replacements. im sorry, but you are straight up dumb.
lol 4 mil? He will get at the very least 9 mil per on his next deal. I peg him at 4 years for 40-44 mil on his next contract.
I understand ur point here about getting an alot cheaper back up and support it. BUT u really f*** up about 'hes worth 4 mil part' buynum got 7 ml deal playing on f*** up knees. Javale and tyson chandler, pekovic and roy hibbert to name a few make alot more. hell roy hibbert makes asik a bargain with his late performance. point is asik would starts on any team would take him. we just have no need for him with his current contract as a back up.
