I think there should be a seperate forum for it as well. For those who dont feel like reading those threads, they can ignore that section, and for those who feel like posting those threads, they dont have to be lambasted for liking the WNBA.

I understand why people would like it. Basketball IS basketball. What I have a problem with is all the hype it recieves as being the next best thing. For me, it is not. Not yet, anyways. Give the league some time to grow and get better! Dont force it down my throat with all this PT coverage. I would rather see the CBA than that. And I really think a lot of the WNBA plaYERS need to work on their skills to live up to the billing that the league already recieves. It really peeves me to see those numerous airballs, bricks, and blown lay-ups(and it is NOT due to awesome d). I think the WNBA will become more exciting in the future, but it is hard for me to watch w/o passing interest most of the time. But when I am realy basketball starved, WNBA will suffice.

Okay Im all for creating a Comets forum. create a hotshots and thunderbear forum for all i care. But i do agree with Pole. Creating a separte forum for comets might give more publicity to sor.com. Atleast that way the comets could be useful for something [IMG]

    Fatty Fat Fat,
I see what you are saying but I can't agree with your apples and oranges analogy.

For one, the arena league and the NFL are all comprised of MEN. The folks who play on arena teams would love to play for the NFL, if they had a choice. But they don't because they are not good enough or they never got proper exposure.

This is not the case with the NBA/WNBA. The NBA is comprised of MEN. The WNBA is comprised of WOMEN, hence the "W" in WNBA.

The way I see it is that the WNBA is a professional American basketball league for WOMEN. The only difference between the NBA and WNBA is the gender of the teams. Actually it's not so much gender that separates the two leagues, but strength and size.

There is little chance in our lifetimes that the NBA will go co-ed, for current obvious reasons. Maybe when women consistently grow beyond 6-5 and are able to leap 4 feet off the ground and bench press 300 lbs this might change.

I'm cool with people simply not liking the product. What disturbs me are the people who go out of their way to diminish what many women and girls respect and admire.

Why is it so hard for some people to accept the fact that women deserve every right to make a living from their sport of choice. What's wrong with young girls having a Cynthia Cooper to look up to as a sports hero?

Give the girls a break and let them just play ball. The fact is that many of them are very good. Some players are way better than some of the scrubs in the NBA, just not as strong. There are some teams that could probably beat many mens college teams. The style of play is similar in that it's not all about being physical.

Most of the players actually rely on SKILL rather than SIZE or STRENGTH.

Space I agree there is nothing wrong with little girls looking up to Cooper or Swoopes as heroes. (As long as they dont look up to that ugly "ho" Jheng Hai of the Utah Starzz or LA Sparks?).

As for alot of WNBA playere being better than NBA players, lets not get carried away. I highly doubt Cooper could even take on Brent Price.

And I also highly doubt the Comets could even beat the mens high school state champions.

    Oh come on!

The Comets would KILL any boy's high school team out there.

As for Brent Price vs. Cooper.... that would be interesting. They both have range. Both have a nice shooting touch. Neither can dunk. Both are good passers with decent asst/to rate. Price is more injury prone.

Sounds pretty even to me. Brent would make a good PG in the WNBA. I bet he'd get injured a lot less. [IMG]

Do yall remember when the WNBA first started and some of the Astros were going to play the Comets a game of basketball? And quite a few of the Astros actually thought they could win. It's too bad they never played the game.

There is no player named Jheng Hai. There was one named Haxia Zheng but she retired. Calling her "an ugly ho" doesn't do much for the credibility of your negative opinion of the WNBA. Is the only reason you watch women's tennis is to drool over Anna Kournikova?

You Comet-haters better hope they win the title this September in case there is another referendum in November. Believe it or not there are a lot of Comet fans who don't give a damn about the Rockets or the NBA. (we already know the inverse is true).
And we're gonna need all the votes we can get.

Brent Price CAN DUNK!!! Let's not compare players across genders. There is a reason why there has never been a woman that has played in the NBA.

Someone mentioned that the Comets probably couldn't beat the boys state champs. It's true, they can't. I don't think the Comets can beat Willowridge. Willowridge was a nationally ranked top 5 team this year. Willowridge had 6'8" Ivan McFarlin who was a top 100 rated player this year. T.J. Ford and Daniel Ewing are top 20 players in the class of 2001. Personally, I don't think the Comets can beat these state Champs!

DANG!!! I make a little post and BOOM, the next day there are 30 posts on it.

Back to the subject, the Comets rock, Sheryl Swoopes is the most beautiful woman in the WNBA, and she could definately outperform most of the 11th and 12th men in the NBA...not to mention what Coop could do in the league!!

Anyway, what else is there to talk about during the summer? I personally am sick of talking about "what will hapen to Brice Drew?" or "can Cato work hard?" , lets talk about something cool; ie the Comets.

Yes, I think a Comets forum would be great. It doesn't have to be a year around thing, just during the season. I finially got season tickets for the Comets for this coming season! I did get to go to one game last year, and I don't remember having so much fun in my life. I think it was on August 16th. That was right before Kim died, God bless her. Everyone got white ribbons to wear, people had made signs showing appreciation for Kim, and Cynthia Cooper went nuts with 42 points! Can't say enough about the fans. The atmosphere is great. They only average around 10,000 people per game, and it'a a hell of a lot louder in there than it is at a Rockets game (you don't see too many old grumps in business suits [IMG] )

I dont watch tennis cause of Anna Kournikove. My favorite of all time was Steffi. Now that she is gone, I really dont have a favorite. I couldnt care less about Anna. And Sheryl Swoopes would get her ass whooped by most 11th or 12th bench warmers. And I dont dilike WNBA cause of that ugly ho who retired. I think Patrick and Malone are ugly ass hell too. But that dont mean I dont like the NBA. And as for Comets beating the state champs, give me a break. As many fastbreaks and air balls they jack up they would get completely whooped. Even a sorry college team would demolish the damn Comets. I do hope that the Comets do win this year though. That way they are helping the Rockets get an arena. The WNBA is not a real sport. Not cause they are a womens team, but because they are an inferior product.

Rockets03...doesn't the WNBA have the best FT% of ANY league in the world.

It is sorta likes playing darts in a women's league, or bowling. They will whip our ass when it comes to technique at the pro level.

Didn't a woman go to a NBA tryout or even a training camp years ago?

    Anybody remember her name?

    Yep. Ann Meyers.

She was invited to the Pacers training camp. I think it was 1977, around that time.

She was one of the best basketball players ever, man or woman!

I just wanna know one thing. Why is it that when they play the wnba commercial that goes " Here she goes again....lalalalal...etc" that Reggie Miller takes that full court shot and smiles like a girl when he makes it? There are no other guys in the skit? Why is he in it? And what's up with his overly aggressive love (kissin, touchin, licking and feelin)with his announcer sister Cheryl, when she does an Indiana game. He does have a mean three though.
