damn, BigDog, MIGHTY FINE TRADE you worked out there... can't say I'd keep 'Woody' Barry around for anything if the rocks didn't see the need for BDrew. But it makes sound sense to me. ------------------ It takes a lot of brains to enjoy satire, humor and wit- but none to be offended by them.
Axeman.... It's sad that you take things so personally. I have never seen someone react so impulsively to a post that was not even directly for them. And I don't know about you, but I really don't find "immature" to be too big of a word to describe some of the posters around here. I frankly do think that it's a realistic viewpoint that the Rockets could invariably get into the playoffs. And unlike what you may think, nothing in my post said that I didn't listen to the opinions of others. My record on this board shows that I have always accepted and even embraced opposing opinions and it's no different here. I've been a fan for a long time and I've seen teams go thru ups and downs as well. And it's really a matter of opinion where the Rockets are in this scheme right now. Perhaps we are in a down, but being in a down for us could be 1st round and out or lottery depending on who you ask. It's all opinions. I probably should have clarified in that post that by immature posters, I mean the spurious and impulsive ones who, just a few weeks ago were like "Rockets will kick butt!" and are now saying "It's over, bring on the lottery". I don't care about how "cool" or popular my opinions are and I also respect it if people disagree or have their own "less-popular" opinions. It's fine to be realistic, even if it means being negative. On that note, Axeman, I feel that 4 games is NOT enough to determine anything either way, but that it's a virtue to at least try and keep a positive attitude towards our teams chances, even if the "realist" in some of us may say "this team has no hope". In my opinion being a true sports fan means being just a little "unrealistic". Realistically, Portland should be 3-0. Realistically, the Lakers shouldn't have lost to an aging Jazz team on opening night. And realistically, we weren't supposed to blow out a talented Milwaukee team. Realistically, we might not make the playoffs.....you get my drift? [This message has been edited by AxSomebody (edited November 07, 2000).]
Personally, if the Rox don't make some sort of move soon, we could be looking at potentially the same sort of start to this season as last. Just look at the remainder of this month's schedule: The Rox face the Lakers 2x, Vancouver, Portland, Chicago, Charlotte, Phoenix, Indiana, Boston, Miami, Sacramento and Denver. IMO the only wins the Rox will have will be against Chicago and Denver if the continue down the same path of falling behind big early and not having enough time to make up the diference. I don't even see the Rox beating Vancouver right now. That's how bad the Rox are playing. Taylor/Kato/Anderson for Webber/Barry. This gives us the big man needed and allows Cat to be in the starting lineup at the 2 spot with Jon Barry coming off the bench and clears cap space to re-sign C Webb after the season. ------------------
treeman: Axeman: No true fan would stop posting here just because he/she didn't tow the majority line. Your contrarian views are most welcome (no sarcasm intended - we really DO need your 'controversial' points of view, if nothing else but to keep us on our toes). "It woult be a boring world without discernment"... George Washington ------------------ Axeman: treeman - I thank you for one of the only friendly posts I've seen all day. At least someone out there can actually tolerate someone else's opinion. ------------------ I'm not about to get into the arguements between the cheerleaders and the pessimists. I just want to point out the irony of a debate between a treeman and an axeman...And with a George Washington reference to boot. Anybody see a cherry tree? ------------------ Save our children from the TAAS test: TAAS test report card TAAS test fact sheet
Can't agree enough, a few loses and every post is about how bad the rockets are. ------------------ MOO Bush and Gore make me want to Ralph votenader.com
BigDog: 'Lakers 2x, Vancouver, Portland, Chicago, Charlotte, Phoenix, Indiana, Boston, Miami, Sacramento and Denver' Vancouver should be a lock, but the Clips shoulda been too. Denver, good chance. Boston should be a lock. Chicago, too. I think we'll steal the Portland game, maybe the seconf Lakers game, too. We tend to do well against good teams, and poorly against bad teams, so who knows? Behad: Wassa matter, don't like George Washington? Think he's funny? I think you misunderstood the quote. All it means is that a little disagreement makes life more interesting. Don't like contrary views? Easy to understand. We all like it when everyone agrees with us - it's very reassuring. But it DOES get boring. Everything's easier when everone agrees, tho, RIGHT? I suppose that the easiest way is always the best way. I guess that could work for some people... ------------------
Dean, I don't think that people are freaking out, but truth be told, the Rox could be in some deep SH** real fast if they don't stop and truly assess their current state. I truly want the Rox to succeed but am not convinced that the Rox will if they don't atleast look at other possiblities. ------------------
