I just want to add some Hakeem tutoring stories. I have seen him trying to show Shawn Bradly moves. Others have already mentioned, Shaq, and Othello. At one time Hakeem actually proposed that the 10 best centers get together during the summer, and each teach the others two moves. His rationale was that while you are giving up two of your moves, you are also learning eighteen new moves. Hakeem also said that with the centers all getting that much better, the whole game would improve. He said that time commitments and other players egos got in the way, and it never came to be. But his desire to teach and learn, was definitely there. It's also a bonus in his good sportsmanship category. ------------------
That is pretty interesting. ------------------ Rarely is the question asked: Guns kill squirrels than REDRUM to fools across the nation?
hey!!! if i'm wrong i'm wrong. it's good to hear that he has taken time out with some players! some people make it seem that i have a hidden hatred regimen against hakeem. far from it. shoot, he was my favorite player. like i said, i just hadn't heard much about his "tutoring" till now. like i said, i'm not in the "H" anymore. just because i question, doesn't mean i don't believe. damn, i think i've said that about religion a 1000 times!
Something that really bugs me about Hakeem is the way he ties his shoes. Also, he needs to get some new knee pads -- maybe a different color or something. And what's with the mouthpiece? This isn't football, Hakeem. The guy just gets on my nerves.
Believe it or not, a friend of mine told me he read Hakeem quoted as saying he would like to work with Stanley Roberts because he had a lot of talent back when we signed him. ------------------
something that bothers me about sarcasm and simplicity is ignorance and idiocy. also, those that seriously lack creativity, originality, and/or sensibility need to get a "Freak'n" clue. what do they think this is, the jim rome show?????
oakdogg, as i remember, hakeem said he'd like to play with stanley roberts a few years ago. as a matter of fact, didn't he play here for a little while after that? the thing was, we (as usual) were in need of a 1/2 way decent backup center, and big stanley was available. hakeem thought he'd be good for a few minutes. honestly, i don't remember hakeem saying he'd like to mentor/tutor big stanley, but i could be wrong. (Achebe,et al ) hard to believe stanley was better than shaq for a little while at lsu. oh well, the buffet line and dale "give-a-game-away" brown did stanley in.
Verse, one of my comments on another thread was to the effect that if we got a young African center with great potential, Dream might enjoy the chance to tutor the kid, seeing some of himself in the kid. ------------------ "We're having a pretty good time considering one day we're all going to die." Haha! Great Post Verse! From the slightly cryptic 'Freak'n clue reference on down to the Jim Rome show. That was classic ------------------
It's commonly known that Hakeem is one of the best dressers in the NBA. I seemed to notice that Serge Zwikker's suits looked progessively better as the year he was here progessed (while sitting on the bench on IR), so there must have been some tutoring going on there. ------------------
Since Hakeem has been with the Rockets: 1) Give me the name of a current or past young center that was worth tutoring? 2) Give me the name of a former Rockets' center that left the Rockets and was a productive player elsewhere? You can tutor all you want. If you don't have the talent or drive (Cato), no amount of fockass/tutoring will help you. ------------------ Respect Hakeem's legacy. heyp - LOL !!! I love this joint! Now 'fockass. ------------------ Our purpose in life is to find our gift, and the meaning of life is to give it away!
During the Dream's tenure as center for the Rockets, Rudy and Carroll have never had a reason to invest money or high draft picks in back ups. Because Dream was the man, there was a huge gulf between his skills and those who backed him up. Even so, Dream helped the games of Othella, Tabak, and even Willis, by playing with/practicing against them. We all thought he would do likewise with Cato, but Cato went into early retirement as soon as he signed his deal. Now we are faced with getting someone else to be that center for the future. Never before have we discussed getting a top draft prospect to groom for center for the decade to come. Perhaps Dream does not care about tutoring his replacement, but he always seems willing to talk to other team's young centers about their games, especially when they show him respect. Would Dream like to leave a legacy of helping to create the next Shaq? I personally believe he would. That is not to say that he would play for $2 mil to do it, but it is to say it might be something he would look upon positively. If you envision two circumstances, with one of those being a very young center with great potential groomed by Dream for two years, and other being no grooming for the same time, the choice is obvious. I say Dream has such a make-up that he would look forward to grooming a truly talented successor. When has he had a player with the potential to do that? Maybe Diop. ------------------ "We're having a pretty good time considering one day we're all going to die." Steve Martin, 1976
