Having a puncher's chance and being legitimate contenders are two different things.

Playoffs!!!!! Of course we can. We have a great team without him thats probably a 52 win team. With him however we are probably a 56 win team and maybe Championship contenders. Maybe more. Playoffs are almost a given seeing as how you traded for Martin midway through the season and missed Yao and Lowry a good part of the season and stilll won 42 games. I think playoffs are given without Bosh and maybe even with a injured player or two. The only question is how good are we with Bosh?

Even experts admit that Houston is one of the most dangerous teams in the West if Yao is healthy.

It is not a punchers chance when you are in the top 3 or 4 seeds.

Big if. That's why Morey is trying to acquire Yao insurance as we speak.

we already know what these Rockets are with no Bosh: a 42-40 lottery team.

Why do we have to pretend like Yao would be healthy to be fair, he hasn't played a full season since John Wall was in junior high.

Saying "if yao is healthy...." is like saying "if we dig up Wilt Chamberlin and re-animate his corpse." Two things that are unlikely to happen. And in Yao's caes, so what, eh gets a 42-win lottery team up to 50 wins, which is maybe good enough to be in contention for the 8 seed. Bravo.

I agree totally. I think when people think about Bosh they fail to realize what we might have to give up to get him. We almost took down the Lakers last year with Yao and Artest. I think we are a much better team since then. We may have to work on our defense but that will get better with the addition of Patterson and of course Yao.

I get your point but it's actually not that bad. Yao is actually healthy now. His foot is healed right? So all he has to do is work on his game and stay healthy. The two most important things is seeding and having Yao around for the playoffs. We need to get a solid backup and limit his minutes A LOT at the begining of the season and we should be fine. But it's gonna take a little faith
    and a lot of luck.

Crazy prediction: Yao will be more productive this year than last.

we are CONTENDERS....the contenders in the west if all players are 100% healthy are the Lakers, Rockets, Mavericks, and the Nuggets.....punchers chance Jazz, Thunder, Spurs, and Suns

this team would have beat the lakers in the playoffs if Yao was there hell even if Deke was there...As far as DM making moves IT IS HIS JOB why do you think successful business always are changing to maintain their competitive advantage

Ahh, but what if what if Morey were to invoke spells from Chapters 17-63 of the Egyptian Book Of The Dead? These clearly detail how the deceased can be made to live again so that they may arise, reborn, with the morning sun. Then they could bring back Wilt and have him explain basketball (and how to pick up 10,000 chicks) to Jordan Hill. Why, it's a win-win for everybody!

I hope you don't mean Bosh or those other FA's.

Better to say, "if we get a backup center". Lessens the chance of rebuttal.

So we'll be real contenders if Yao plays, as long as we don't play Yao very much and have a good back up for him.

If Yao returns as scheduled and the team stays healthy, the Rockets make the playoffs, even with no other moves this offseason. Do they advance very far in the playoffs? Probably not.
