In response to the thread topic,

    I would say 'no.'

I have a feeling we will try to get Kurt Thomas from the Knicks in the offseason, but that it will have to be a three-way (otherwise we would have him already.)

We have a group of ex-Magic, a group of ex-pistons and big group of ex-knick. Well we only had two ex-Roceket, Yao and ...

    you guessed right

Are these three groups mutually exclusive, or do we have, a fourth group that is some wicked hybrid of the three.

    (1) All I said (originally) was that JVG was a Knick at heart. That's it.

    (2) The second response was to mean that (I believe) winning any NBA championship anywhere is equally precious to Phil Jackson. Perhaps he has some "allegiance" to the Knicks, Bulls, Lakers, or Patroons, but if so, he doesn't wear it on his sleeve.

Conversely, it seems to me a championship in New York as Knicks coach would be "more precious" to JVG than winning a championship in Houston as Rockets head coach. Not that he isn't trying his best to win, to the limits of his head coaching abilities (poor, mediocre, or good), but that it isn't "the best it could be."

    (3) I still think JVG is just another NBA head coach. "Incorrect perception?" Perhaps, but I see things that are there. You see things based upon some obsession to have everyone bow down to your guy.

    (4) This really probably belongs in the "FIRE JVG!!!" thread, and should you reply, will be continued there.

I think you just want to con someone else into keeping that thread alive

since right now, you are the one that keeps bumping it

    :p

Sorry guy, but the Rockets are moving up in the world, the FIRE JVG days are OVER for now - get over yourself.

I loved Rudy T, but he let Francis run the show and dictate the team, and no one will win a championship with Francis

Tmac loves JVG - Yao respects JVG... its over - case closed

Your statement about Phil "not wearing it on his sleeve" is just you pointing out his already won titles. So what? That does not address the fact that Phil won thoes titles with Jordan/Pip, Shaq/Kobe leading those teams; while still being a Knick at heart. It wouldn't matter if he didn't wear his NY allegiance on his sleeve or not. He needs those star players to win in the first place. Just as any coach does.

You also make an assumption that other coaches can't win a title (JVG) before he's gotten a chance to coach a team of Jordan/Shaq's level? The TMac/Yao tandem is that chance. Allegiance? Hogwash! It has nothing to do with it. Do you understand? Just by *not having an allegiance (which we don't know if it is true or not) * does not automatically give one the ability to win a title.

Not that you would remember that having better collective/younger talent on THIS team (vs NY team) would have any thing to do with it. It does! But you *seem* to ignore that. Just like you ignore Phil's dependence on his star players. Lots of *after the fact* assumptions based on just the rings, rather than *how* he got those rings.

"More precious" for a NY title? Ok, but...

If he wins a title in HOU that's all that matters. As long as he keeps the "more precious" in the back of his head (as a lot of title winning coaches do). He's got a job to do. Just like any coach that is from another city besides Houston.

And it's also nice of you to caveat your point that JVG might be *trying his best* but because of his "limits of his head coaching abilities" that his "best" might not be *better* than Phil's. Hmmm, I guess *all it takes* for Phil to win is for him to just *try his best* and then presto, chamionship! NOT! Ha ha!

Guess he didn't *try his best* when he lost to the Larry's Pistons! :D Ha! So much for that theory of yours. Amazing how players and their teammates seem to just creep into the equation all the time.

You see things as they ARE NOT (or rather you *see* what's on the surface, but are unable to understand why/how things happen). Just like you've done in your past history of repeated incorrect assumptions. Over and over...

As promised, the thread was continued in "FIRE GUNDY!!!"

No, there seem to be several other people who have posted to FG!!! in the last few days... As to DavidS, we don't need another thread for his JVG-colored glasses. The existing one is plenty sufficent.

Rose-colored? Uh, he his the Rockets coach. And that's why I'm supporting him. He's doing a great job. Gloating the Phil track record is fine. But you ignore how he got those rings. And think that others can't win under similar circumstances if given the chance.

All it takes is core group of superstars to build a winning culture. And it grow from there. We have that foundation. And JVG will lead it.

edc, i must say your perception is warped.

you seem to think that Jeff Van Gundy belongs in New York and not Houston.

not one time this season has JVG professed any loyalty to any other team other than his own.

the only person that is wearing their allegiance on their sleeve is YOU, edc...

you have created a warped little world of double standards that only benefit your warped argument, "promising" to only yourself that you will respond in another thread of the same subject...

edc, does jvg remind you of someone who beat you up when you were little or something like that? i mean cause there has definitely got to be something more to this. dont get mad at me or anything but im just saying its not jvg's fault that he may look like or remind you of someone who caused psycholigical trauma to your mind at a earlier stage in life.

Jeff Van Gundy has repeatedly said that the Knicks organization hold a special place in his heart. Not that he wants them to win *more* than he wants his current employer to win, but that the Knicks were special. In short, he was and is "a Knick at Heart."

The best summary would be what he said to ESPN just before he took the Rocket job. Even though he is working, and trying his best, the emotional investment just doesn't go away.

"There wasn't one day for 13 years that I didn't think about the Knicks -- even when you're on down time, on vacation -- not one day," Van Gundy said. "You're jotting notes, your mind is always drifting back to it. And when I got off that treadmill, I never thought I would think of them anymore, but I still think of them every day."

You are "going back to New York City?" Please do, and take Van Gundy with you.

Uh? Whatever, dude. I just think the Rockets could do better than settling for the guy, even if he was Le$ "chosen one."
