on offense, he is a power dunker. doesn't get up real high but tries to finish everything enar the semi circle strong, ala nene.

    his defense is well known.

7 foot shot blocking Chuck Hayes minus the passing.

Does some things on defense outstanding. Everywhere else he stinks. He's overhyped plain and simple.

I remember posting something similar to what I am going to say now in another thread, All Centers are going to get overpaid (perhaps Dwight being exception, depending on your perspective on Dwight). But it goes along with the business side of the NBA.

there is a demand for skilled 7ft+ players to defend the paint. Offensive skills need to be average as well (a couple of post moves, maybe a jump hook, etc.) Since there are very few players to supply that Demand, the price on the players who do meet the requirements jumps up in price. Best player to meet that requirement will (should) get the max contract. the price should then of course taper off of that pricing. Dandre Jordan made a killing on his contract, Hibbert is about to make a killing on his contract, Mcgee will also make a killing on his. It is just the way the business works. Overpaying is the only way to guarantee you get a player of that nature. If there were an abundance of 7ft Centers who were skilled on both ends of the court, contracts would'nt be nearly as high.

    Cliffnotes:
-not a lot of 7ft centers = overpay to get a 7ft center
-More 7ft centers available = more realistic contracts

    BLAH BLAH BLAH

I dont give a f**k about this guy and neither should you, he's not a superstar. We can't win a title or even get out of the division without a great player and Asik is not.

Offense doesn't matter. Just look at some of the best, or what is considered best, defensive centers the past few years -- Big Ben, Perkins, Tyson Chandler, so forth.

You can win with a dominant defensive center. Look at Asik's numbers and given more minutes, he should be just that.

Brilliant. The things he's good at are extremely hard to find, and the things he's bad at we have a whole season of Kevin McHale and Marcus Camby to improve.

Less athletic more plodding version of Kelvin Cato. In other words he sucks.

What's he good at? Getting into foul trouble early and often? Fumbling easy passes? Missing free throws? Setting moving screens? You must think Camby and McHale are miracal workers.

Just stop. To sit there and act like he is good at nothing either proves you are a complete idiot....or just really intent on histrionics to try and prove your ****ty point.

The fact that Houston is still going after Asik tells me they aren't so confident in being able to get Howard after all.

Maybe I am wrong and they want both guys and getting Asik is an insurance policy against Howard getting hurt or leaving after 1 season.

My question is if they can't get Howard and they don't try to sign Asik, who do they get to play center that is better than Asik? If there was a center available (not named Howard) they could get that's better than Asik you would think they'd be after him, right?

I think getting Asik would be a good signing, especially if he can somehow be coached up to be better offensively...

They could always try to get Hakeem to come in and teach him. Dude couldn't help but get a little better with the Dream showing him a few tricks, eh?

Fab Melo @ 18 made a lot of sense. Defensively, he will be as good as asik and a lot cheaper. Just saying

Is it just me or is he incapable of dunking without hanging or pulling up his legs?

He doesn't get to dunk very often, so he's gotta enjoy every opportunity.
