As far as Ming giving 50% of his salary, thats up to him and the gov't because we know uncle sam gets 40%. If i remember correctly, Mengke Bateer played summer league and was here for the entire season. I'm most sure, once the rockets get into negotiation with the sharks, gov't and whomever else is involved, it will become clearly. What people must understand that if the rockets have trouble with this , other teams will also. Its going to come down to communication and the almighty dollar. I don't want to bring this into a greed aspect, but it will all boil down to MONEY! I know Ming will be carrying the pride of China when he comes and play and I don't think the gov't or the Sharks wanted to put him in the draft for the sake of making it impossible for him to compete and play with his team. The tradeoff might have to be some exhibition games played in China or what the NBA does in Japan with the first 2 games being played in China to relax the training camp or national team duties. I'm not that worried because i think cd and rudy t will exhaust the resources availible to make sure if they do draft him he will be availible. Its new territory, but something will be worked out. they realeased him to play and i think it will not be as difficult as some might think.
Lobo had many valid points and I think his overall message was clear. We, as Americans, have long understood China's economic prowlness and dominance in the world. To say that we are indoctrinated into believing China are a bunch of "commies" is false. I believe there are a larger majority of well-informed and educated Americans who know no system is perfect and that economics play a larger role in world relations, human rights and governmental affairs. But, let's not confuse this with China's well documented oppression of human rights. No system of government is perfect and by no means am I making judgement here. No one is saying that China should not be dealt with in these matters and that they do not have a right to claim some sort of compensation in return for Yao Ming's ascension into the NBA, but..... I totally forgot what the heck this topic was about..... I am done with this one...let's get on with a-political basketball talk!!!
Montgo The topic did get lost pretty quickly! The original point was, accepting Yao and then releasing him for International games is standard practice in every major sport... Thus, let's just accept that if we draft him. The NBA and the Rocks are not bigger than the rest of world sport. Secondly, I don't know how the racist tag came into it. I don't think the posts have being racist. More that some have been culturally ignorant. ie, stereotyping the Chinese Govt + presuming everything is so much bigger and better in the USA. I really hope, if Yao does come to Houston, he's not greeted with that attitude. If he is...you will have problems. Finally, somehow me and NYKRule got onto the NBA v Football as to which sport is bigger. We can agree to disagree
Where did you get that idea from, can you provide a link DON'T BELIEVE THE NEW YORK HYPE - DRAFT MING!!!
