Why wouldn't you want objective fans? They are smart fans. It's better than being a blind homer any day.
in my mind as fan of a team, you have to have the passion and therefore some homerism. no one is totally objective in sports. not even morey can say that. and we probably have too many "objective" fans. it's a big reason why the lower bowl at the toyota center is always half-empty.
If I were asked to put out the line, I say it's an even 50/50. I think Ron will be the difference maker this time around. He has the attitude to push the team into an extra gear when the going gets tough. I don't feel we've had that before. Hopefully it's in attacking the basket, not tunnel vision jacked 3's.
What? 121 votes for No! Doesn't even say "will beat". It says "can" the Rockets beat Utah in a playoff series? And the answer is "Hell yes!"
Amen. I found a video that I want ClutchFans members to emulate. Watch this video daily, and take pointers from it. Try to apply them to the way you view basketball.
I voted no but with particular emphasis on the first round. I would LOVE to see us beat the crap out of Utah. They have the worst fans ever and nothing would be better than beating them. Besides the match up nightmare of Yao vs. Okur/Boozer, I think Ron is the overall X factor. The problem is Utah plays tough and dirty and that could set Ron off to the point where he implodes which I still think is a high possibility. Or...the match-up could make Ron play harder. Who knows how this pans out but I could totally see Ron fighting Harping and get thrown out, which we lose in terms of matchups by the way. And, anyone thinking that AB or Lowry can handle Deron is just plain kidding themselves. Maybe a game or two they can handle him but not a 7 game series. Last, but not least - Boozer sucks...talk about over-rated.
So if no one is totally objective in sports than who are you referring to when you said "screw the objective fans"? If someone asked you if Yao was better than Shaq in his prime what would you say to them? Would your passion and homerism be so great that you will say Yao absolutely? Why screw the fans that are objective? I have no idea how you came up with the conclusion that half lower empty seats is because of too many objective fans. I think there's a lot of teams with "too many objective fans" that fill seats better than the Rockets. As for the Rockets I think they can beat any team in the west. Certain teams they have a greater chance to beat than others obviously.
F* fear! I'm with River and IROC, bring them on. And more than that, I WANT them in the first round EVERY YEAR so we can end this crappy feeling you nay sayers are favoring. Good grief, we own those dudes. You'll see.
I hate the jazz as much as the next person, but you have to be somewhat objective. We couldn't beat them with a healthy tmac, yao, and HC. Our chance aren't as good considering yao is even slower and we have no tmac.
I appreciate what you are saying. But, we are NOT yesteryears teams. We are soooo much better...and DEEPER. Two months ago my objectivity was fearless when I felt we would eventually be ahead of San Antonio and second in the conference. So, I'll stick with my objectivity.
Since we'll surely seed higher than the Jazz, I think we have a 50-50 change to beat them. I don't think we can beat them if there is no HOA this year, we just don't match up well with them. We had a 50-50 chance to beat the Jazz last year, until Alston went out for the first couple games.
How concerned are you that the Rockets will play the Jazz? I know we've had discussion on which teams we prefer the Rockets play. It seems that Dallas, Denver, and NOLA are up there in preference and we'd prefer not to play the Jazz and the Blazers (since Roy gives us a hard time). Now that we hold the 2nd seed, i seems likely that we would face the Jazz in the first round. It's also possible that we would face the Blazers if we drop to 3. Those are the likely the two scenarios as long as we don't implode and fall to 4 which would have us face NOLA which would still be a nice matchup. I feel that if we play the Jazz, we will have a really hard time guarding Boozer and Deron Williams like the past two years. The Jazz really are a better team than 7, but thanks to injuries, that's where they lie. Would you be legitimately concerned about out chances of getting out of the first round if we play Utah?
Love this team, but I am not sold yet. Yes, winning against teh Spurs was excellent, but in a 7 game series with the Jazz, I don't see this team pulling it out. So to answer your question, nope. Bring on the Mavericks instead.
