Even if Watt doesn't lead the leauge in sacks, he'll still win it. There are guys that only gets sacks, but do little else. While Watt gets sacks from a position that historically doesn't, and is the leauges best run stoper, leads the leauge in take aways (Ranks 33rd if you compare him among teams, only 1 behind the entire Giants team), and can goth both ways.
2 reasons he will win MVP, 1) QB fatigue 2) If he doesn't win it with the season he is having no Defensive player will ever win it again in today's NFL. Which btw... as a side note, sucks. You used to need a great football team to win the SB now you only need a great QB, the rest of the squad be dammed.
Uhh... may need to look back at the recent list of SB winners and assess their overall teams. Not one of them had a horrible defense and simply a great QB.
I would typically agree but you have to remember this was a 2 win team last season. It's looking like a 8-9 win team this season. Should be considered, IMO because of the drastic jump in W's.
PFF had Watt dominant as ever last season even though his sacks were down. The wins are adding up because of an easier schedule. The Texans best win this season is vs Buffalo, and that was before they benched EJ Manuel. After Buffalo and Cleveland... Who aren't even that good... The Texans have not beat anybody worth mentioning.
while im a big Miller fan and actually wanted the Texans to trade up for him the year we drafted Watt I think it would be silly to have an edge rusher like him win the award, its like giving Aldon Smith an award when Justin Smith is the one doing all the work. Watt is the best defensive player alive and probably the best pure football player alive.
I agree but it probably wouldn't even matter if the Texans did make the playoffs... Rodgers and Luck are simply doing too much and it's a quarterback driven league. Still some games left so anything could happen. Even receiving votes would be a great thing IMO.
No one else is even remotely in the defensive player of the year discussion. At all. He will win it unanimously. I think Rodgers will get the MVP with Watt right next to him.
How could you not give the MVP to a guy that makes a difference on both sides of the ball? He can beat you with his defense and be a lethal scoring weapon. Now THAT is a most valuable player.
