I think he'd have a chance with this squad, but I'd feel better if Yao were healthy. It's all about matchups anyway. Too early to even speculate.

Yeah, I think that Tracy will be able to get to the 2nd round with the help of brooks. our team is generally
playing good, and tracy has always been a good player except for last season. with the help of brooks, i actually believe he would make it to the 2nd round.

Tracy McGrady should have already advanced to the second round. Unfortunately, Tim Donagan illegaly influenced the games.

All other years, Tracy Mcgrady was either surrounded by dickheads like David Wesley and Ryan Bowen, or the team was facing a nightmare matchup in the Utah Jazz.

If we would play against the Jazz right now in the playoff and we have a healthy Tmac, we have a good chance of beating them.

Why? because we have a good team, along with an healthy Tmac would give the Jazz full of migraines.

We would lose if we still have rafer starting, and if we have Yao in the lineup.

But all of Tmac's first round exit with the Rockets, I think it is unfair to just point fingers at him. We never have a decent team to surround Tmac before. Yao doesn't bring much to the playoff as we expected and the other team are always more offensively talented and more athletic.

Tracy can get past the first round, if he's sitting on the bench in street clothes. And for those that say he can get out of the first round with this team, are we talking about the same team Tracy rooted against while playing the Lakers. And if he said that about you, would you want to win with him playing as your teammate and let him get all the credit for advancing? or would you tank just to spite him? I know what I'd do if he was my teammate. I'd kick him right in the basket-balls.

Dude, the same people that are hating on Tracy are saying this season that the Rockets are not contenders with or without Tracy and they have to build this season and trade. If you ask why they aren't supporting THIS team, they say they are being "realistic".

Well, that's what Tracy was being.

Personally, I don't agree, I think passion and heart count more than paper stats and I'll root for this team to go to the championships this year.

Why is this about TMac getting to the 2nd round when the question is will the Rockets as a whole even make the playoffs? This thread pre-supposes the Rockets even when a 1st round series, which is really premature at this point.

It is going to be very hard for McGrady to lead a team to the second round. For every great attribute Tracy has, he has an equal or greater flaw. These flaws are what I feel is preventing his teams from advancing in the playoffs.

    Moving without the ball
He does not move without the ball well. Moving without the ball allows other teammates to get easier baskets. Tracy basically stands in one spot when he does not have the ball. Players like Battier can get away with that because they are not much of an offensive threat, but when your key scorer just stands in one spot, it tell the defense that McGrady is not the current threat to score, which allows them to key in on other individuals. Moving without the ball also allows certain plays to develop. It can pull certain defenders away from certain areas of the floor. When Tracy stands in one spot, it literally stifles the offensive action.

    Playing within a system
He does not play within the prearranged system well. While other players are playing within the motion offense, Tracy is playing a different style. This shuts down a certain part of the floor making it hard for other players to score. Tracy keeps playing the style that is suited for him rather than the style that the Adelman wants. Tracy plays the exact same way as he did in Orlando, but without the athletic ability. He has never adapted to his various coaches style. This was an issue with Doc Rivers as well.

    Defense
Defense is the key for advancing in the playoffs. Tracy has the potential to be an elite defender. He is capable of stopping just about anyone. However, his defensive intensity rarely goes for a full quarter. He will defend hard on a couple of plays and then slack off.

    Effort
Here’s a quote from Kobe about Tracy: “T-Mac isn’t good at coming back to the ball after he’s given it up, making it easier for an active defender to deny him possessions.” I will disagree with Kobe on one thing; it’s not that Tracy isn’t good at coming back to the ball, it is that he does not put forth the effort.

    Toughness
In the playoffs, players will play a lot more physical. Tracy does not like physical contact. Quentin Richardson’s quote about McGrady says it all: “Tracy's the type of guy if you get physical and play him a certain way, he kind of fades away."

    Mental Strength
In the past, Tracy has admittedly quit on his team, he has pouted on the floor when things didn’t go his way (Toronto), and he has made excuses for why his teams have not achieved anything. These are traits that are not found in champions.

    Exactly. I agree.

But with him on the active roster and playing during the playoffs could he advance? That's what they're getting at I think.

He can, if he pulls an Artest. (Sign with a contender in the off-season)

That's exactly what I was going to say. To answer the question, no, if he is asked or he demands to lead the team and get the majority of minutes and handling the ball.
