i see him having an impact...but if we're talking about limiting minutes before the season even starts, then i don't see that impact as being impactful enough to make this team a contender.
LOL - come on, you don't understand the context of the sig, it is that we don't know what Chase will become. People seem to think players peak in their rookie years, my sig is only to add a little bit of context. You can't say he will be Kobe Bryant.....and that is not what I am saying. I think he will have a major impact...24 mpg to start and 32 to finish....and the team will be together all year with improving young guys.... You may be right, but if they get off to a fast start, people will be talking about us as contenders... DD
There are no guarantees of winning a championship or making the finals, getting there is about all you can hope for. Re: A Superstar. Those do not fall off of trees, and Bosh, is not one. DD
He'd better hurry since he's only 2 years younger or find a time machine; by the time Parker was Brooks age NOW, he had 3 NBA titles and multiple all-star game appearances.
Well, the Rockets also traded for Otis Thorpe, Kenny Smith, and made a deal for Vernon Maxwell, sign Mario Elie and drafted Horry and Cassell.
I don't know if Bosh is or not...doesn't matter. We don't have one. I recognize they don't fall off trees.
Sure, they also traded or signed Kevin Martin Trevor Ariza Jordan Hill They are getting better, that is my point, the Rox back then were getting incrementally better and then broke through. If Yao is healthy, maybe that happens again. And you rarely EVER get one through trade, most are developed after being drafted. DD
Who has ever suggested a player peaks in their rookie year? That is ridiculous. Regardless, my point is, to say that Bosh would have zero impact on a championship run is as silly suggesting Budinger to be the next Kobe Bryant. Budinger being one of the players on the roster who you constantly overrate.
The only thing btw more predictable than the daily offseason "STAND PAT PAY ATTENTION TO ME I ARE SMART " rant from DaDakota is his consistent and oft-repeated belief that the rockets have enough "complimentary" players to win a title - I guess they send each other a lot of greeting cards, admire each others' rides, and are generally cordial in the locker room.
Hillboy, I don't think you can still consider this team on the same path as before. When TMac was aquired, great things were expected. IIRC, they were supposed to be the next Shaq and Kobe tandem. Unfortunately, injuries and other problems plagued the team, namely monstrous contracts with no room to work with to aquire the right pieces. Even if aquired, there were still the injuries. Now, we have a new GM, for what, 3 years now? We have gotten rid of McGrady's contract and Yao is on his last year, and maybe his last leg. I think Morey has done an excellent job of no taking on bad contracts. We did take on Jeffries in exchange for dumping Tmac's, but JJ's was not long term. We have the pieces in place to become a contender real soon and given the chance and hoping for health, we will. It may not be this year, but we are definitely in the right position. We have assets, and that's important. Look at the problems that teams ala the Bulls and Heat are having in free agency. No S&T assets. Sure we didn't get Bosh, but how hard did DM really try? How often has DM done what he has publicly put out? I just think that a lot of fans are not seeing the bigger picture. I don't think we are stuck in mediocrity, if anything, we are in a great position to become a great team over the next couple of years, if not this year.
A move needs to be made. This team has too many good players and too few great ones. Need to consolidate the talent instead of having a "pretty good" team from 1-10 on the roster. Having said that, I'm glad Bosh fell through. Never had a good feeling about the guy at all and adding him didn't change the fact that everything would be ruined if Yao went down again or doesn't come back to 90% of what he was before.
Nope, I am saying he is a good role player, with good upside....nothing more. And a lot of people here undervalue players or are ready to jettison them in their rookie years, go find my "AB is the Answer" thread from his rookie year. And look at all the people who look foolish now, many are in this very thread and b****ing and moaning like usual...right Sam? DD
i'm aware of that...but so far we haven't been in position to draft a superstar. maybe this year we will be, provided the Knicks help out. none of that changes the fact that we don't have one...no matter how we don't have one...we just don't. we are severely limited in the whole "championship contender" discussion because of it. but pretty clearly, the Rockets and Morey thought Bosh was pretty special.
The Celtics went all in, that worked out nicely. The Heat traded for a aging Shaq. Success. Lopsided or not, the Lakers shipped off a young Marc Gasol for his older brother. What i'm trying to say is either way with a deep roster that you'll be fine standing pat or makng that big deal. Things could be worse, we could have Khan as our GM.
