For a 3rd PG, you need to look for a guy who is: (1) reliable, (2) willing to take the vet minimum, and (3) content to ride the pine and be ready when called on. I don't think Telfair would do it. The guy who comes to mind for me is Rafer, but I don't know if he would meet requirement 3.
If Adelman decides we really need a third PG, then I'd speculate he would go for a change of pace PG, i.e. a less expensive player with height and some NBA experience as a PG. Current FA contenders in this category would be 6-5 Javaris Crittenden (Wiz), 6-3 Acie Law (Bulls) or 6-2 Marcus Williams (Griz).
Of course they don't. But that isn't why we have 8 players.Assuming Yao, Miller, Scola are the rotation, Hill is needed in case of injuries. We have Patterson to develop for the future and Hayes for D specialist. Andersen and Jeffries are still on the roster because their contracts are still valuable for trade, especially Jeffries, and especially at the trade deadline. Yes, it makes sense to have a 3rd PG, but I don't think we cut a player and lose trading assets for a player who likely won't see any time. If a PG does go down, then you cut a player and add from the D League, or maybe even make a trade. We may have made a trade and freed up a roster spot by then anyway.
I really dont see the need for another pg. Brooks and Lowry rarely get injured. I would rather just call up I. Smith from the D-League than waste money on a scrub. I think we can survive with 2 pg's for now.
Now that David Andersen has been traded, the Rockets have a roster spot open. Expect to see that roster spot filled with a third string PG. That person may end up being one of the PG's on the Rockets summer league team, or it could be a low cost free agent. Watch and see.
Yes you can. They have no point guards. Their starter is hurt. They traded their backup. Now they are waiving telfair.
funny that someone thinks Telfair is not "solid" enough to even be the 3rd PG while someone think he's not going to accept 3rd string role.
I think we should go for a veteran to help mentor Brooks and Lowry. Veteran's are also typically going to accept a 3rd string position because they have nothing to prove. Tinsley is a FA, he would be a great 3rd stringer for one year at the vet min.
They've got Flynn and Ridnour. That's the exact same amount of PG's we have. How is that bad? PS: yes Kahn is an idiot.

You can't sign a player with a trade exception. It's called a trade exception, because it is for trades not free agent signings.
