Man people are so impatient. We are one month into a 8.5 month season + playoffs. Even considering how "horrible" we are playing right now, we are still 1st in the division after one of the most difficult stretches of the year. Even right now we are on pace to win 50 games, and everyone would say we aren't playing well.

On Marbury, I'm normally completely about the "why not use a vet minimum and see" about high risk players, but:

    1. We need size at the 4/5. If we have to choose between Deke and Marbury, I choose Deke. Heck I would take Darius Miles over Marbury because he plays a position i feel we need more. This is even with the fact that T-Mac & Barry are hurt. We need to maintain the defense and rebounding that we have had the past few years. JVG's biggest thing was rebounding and we are near unbeatable the past 2-3 yrs when we win that battle.

    2. Sometime during the summer, in one of the 12,384,912 "Let's get Marbury posts" I posted a detailed post about how whenever Marbury leaves a team and goes to a new team, the old team posts a better record and the new team stays the same or gets worse.

Now there is the caveat that the last time the Marbury actually played on any team with other true "superstars" or pseudo-superstars was the Minnesota team. Since then he has had to be Mr. Everything for the teams he has played for.

Also, he has never played on a team where there were other leaders to keep him in check.

Main point: He apparently is cursed. We have had enough players on our teams who are cursed....T-Mac.....Battier......Head/Dorsey (both played on teams that blew NCAA championship games)....Deke.....Bobby Jackson...Oakley......Shandon Anderson....Vin Baker....Barkley

you still have not answered my question. in fact, you told me that I answered your question

what was your question again?

so Marbury alienated his teammates on the court and in the locker room and its on the Knicks organization?

and why do you think he is trying to turn his life around? what happened since he quit on his team last season that makes you think he is trying to turn over a new leaf? you keep talking about THIS situation. THIS situation is that his teammates voted against him playing on the court with them.

people in this thread know nothing about the past four and a half seasons on the basketball court and in the locker room. someone tell me why this happened if he's such a good basketball player.

and tell me why take a chance that would almost certain be a failure?

thank goodness the results of this thread are on the side that says NO to STAPH

Stephon struggled in the preseason coming off the bench.

he lost the battle for starting position to Chris Duhon.

    Chris Duhon!

he averaged 9 points and 4 assists this preseaon.

I'll take Rafer Alston over Staph Marbury

    That is just untrue......
He was just not given a fair shot, He did fine with the time and the role he had in preseason, and is 10 times better than Duhon.........

That said, Steve is better than Stephon............and a better teammate.....

    Steph's preseason stats

    8.57 ppg
    50% FG
    3.42 Apg
    2.14 TOpg
    20.85 mpg

He had a decent preseason......not great, not bad, but it was preseason.....

He could help this team a lot, IMO.

If you think Rafer Alston can possibly be as much as a distraction as Stephon Marbury, you're delusional.

the difference is of course, that ron artest has been on good teams before. everywhere marbury goes, he makes his team worse off than they were. i do think the way the whole situation went down this year was very unfair to him, but that doesn't mean i want a perrenial loser on this team (cue the t-mac never getting out of the first round responses).

To answer the poll question: an indefinite "no."

My justification is that we know what Rafer brings to the team: somewhat reliable at running the half-court offense, decent team defender, and of course, atrocious shooting and little dribble penetration. Yes I am extremely critical of Rafer, but he does contribute to the team as a starting PG. On the other hand, I am uncertain whether Marbury can run our team as a starter. For one thing, we don't know what kind of shape he is in.

However, a better question can be asked: Would you want Marbury on the Rockets' roster under any circumstances? Personally, I would like the Rockets to sign him for the veteran's minimum, provided that we get under the cap one way or the other.

To those favoring the current Francis over the current Marbury, I think there's no debate. Francis is done, he'll never be a significant player on the court again. This is not an attack on Francis' work ethic: His injuries have rendered his career to a halt. Marbury, on the other hand, is still healthy (though maybe out of shape).

Can you explain why? I at least offered an explanation while you just engaged in name calling.

We'd still have to pay him. Considering how the Rockets feel about the luxury tax, I don't see it happening. We still have to sign Deke or another big man.

I can offer an explanation. just on your distraction argument alone, you have Rafer being more of a distraction to the team than Staph. You also forgot to mention Staph's involvement in the sexual harassment lawsuit that plagued MSG. was that the incident you described where he cheated on his wife?or are we talking about different incidents?

and yes, eccentric interviews DO count, especially when the media knows the things he says are going to be used as sound bytes and youtube clips.
are you prepared to live with the circus that is Staph Marbury in the locker room after every game?

Stephon Marbury arrested for drunken driving
    02/08/2002 - Updated 01:24 PM ET

    AP file photo
Marbury's blood alcohol level when arrested was .153.(almost twice the legal limit of .08)

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Phoenix Suns point guard Stephon Marbury was arrested Friday on a charge of extreme driving under the influence after an officer saw his car weaving on the road.

An officer started following Marbury because he appeared to be speeding, then watched as the car began moving in and out of its lane, Scottsdale police spokesman Officer Scott Reed said.

Marbury was clocked at 75 mph in a 50 mph zone and pulled over, Reed said. Marbury's speech was slurred and his breath smelled like alcohol, the police claimed.

so there you have it. according to my analysis, it is indeed STAPH who gets the nod as far as distractions are concerned.

great game by Rafer last night to show why 60% of fans here agree that he is better off for this team!

I don't see how Marbury at this stage could help the Rockets.
