If the Lakers wanted Lue, they'd have to take Pike as well to make the salaries work. Not sure if it makes a whole lot of sense for the Lakers. Still, I'd love to do that.
actually, it is. that said, anyone not recognizing the reason the lakers were repeatedly torched by pg's was the lakers/shaq's unwillingness to help on the pnr should probably stick to richard justice articles for their basketball reading. and since when is tyronn freaking lue starters material. i seem to remember him backing someone up in LA. who was that guy again? oh yeah, it was derek fisher. i also remember lue only starting for great teams like the washington wizards and the orlando magic. i believe even lue himself said he was a backup. lets stop thinking we're going to start tyronn lue next season. the only reason any of us know his name is that he played for the lakers during one of their title years (not that this hasn't helped fisher also). and even if you don't like fisher, you should at least be happy that if we get him we definitely won't get eric snow. not that's reason to celebrate.
It would be ok to trade lue... fish will be the point and be bcked up by Barry (if we get him) and Wilks
Fisher isn't special...that's why we need him. We NEED a guy who will just get it up court and dump it in to Yao and T-Mac, and force the defense to single-cover them or double off of Fisher leaving him open for 3. I'm not saying Fisher is the best PG in the league here, but he is the best fit out of the options we have. Barry is good, but I'd rather have a more true PG...if CD can work a miracle and get Barry here (to play SG) and Fisher, then all the better. Snow is not right for this team...Van Exel is too expensive...Hudson isn't bad, but doesn't have the proven track record of Fisher. Fisher is as good or better defensively than Barry and Hudson. Referring to Ty Lue vs Iverson in the finals...yeah, that was good defense, if you think holding someone's jersey so he can't get open to get the ball is good defense.
I think it would be really tough for us to get BOTH Fish and Barry ... Is Barry really going to want to be a backup?
Isn't this what was said last year when the Rockets acquire Piatkowski? Everyone was saying Pike would flourish here because all the Rockets need is someone that can park out at the 3-point line and hit 3's.
A guy like Fisher - or any point guard in our offense next year - shouldn't expect to rack up a whole lotta assists. The PG's gonna bring the ball up the court WITHOUT TURNING IT OVER, dump it down to the big fella, spread the offense by camping out behind the three point line, and make the defense pay if it cheats off you. We need someone who can play defense (which Fisher can), protect the ball, and hit open shots. I think Fisher would be a good fit. I also, like others, appreciate his playoff & championship experience as well as his proven ability to drain the big basket.
I was one of those people. Piatkowski was a huge disappointment... I'm still shaking my head over that.
It seems as if we have two varying sides regarding whether or not Fisher would be a good fit with the Rockets. The naysayers want to look at career statistics to compare different options and the proponents for Fisher are looking at the intangibles. I think both are credible point of views, but I think the reality lies somewhere in the middle. The problem lies in the fact that people are viewing this as a one on one competition. The Rockets need to be a cohesive unit. In order to do this, we need components within our team which are willing to fill a role. Sure, Brent Barry is an overall better point guard then Derek Fisher. As a younger, more athletic and better shooter, Barry is amazing, but at the same time, he's not a tenacious defender, he's not battle tested, and he will require quite a few shots to be satiated within our offense. With Yao and Mcgrady on our roster now, it's going to be difficult to find shot attempts for him. It's almost a bit of a travesty to keep such a prolific scorer in check because there are not enough "touches" on our team. It's all a moot point though as Barry is out of our price range now and our only real choices are Snow and Fisher which to me seems an obvious choice as well. Another bonus is that Fisher seems to have some semblance of intelligence when I've listened to interviews from him.
Let's see, when an average to below average point guard turns what age, do their skills start to diminish? If Derek Fisher didn't make that last second shot, I don't think so many people would be on the Derek Fisher bandwagon. Why would you sign Derek Fisher when he seems to be on his way down? He had a TERRIBLE regular season last year. Even most of the supporters of Fisher here can even agree that he doesn't really excel at anything. Especially PASSING THE FREAKING BALL. In my opinion, we don't need a point guard that isn't an above average passer. The guy has only gotten 4 assists per game twice in his career. If we were trying to sign him to be a back up, I might feel differently. But, probably not.
Difference between Piakowski and Fisher is one proved they could hit the big shots in the playoffs. It's really hard to pick just one, but just thinking about it, how many times last year did the rockets struggle to score. There were games where nothing went in. With Barry we would be getting a guy who can shoot from any where on the floor. As long as we don't sign him until he's 36/37, i think JVG can work with him defensively
I would really like to get Rafer Alston or Antonio Daniels. Rafer has really become a nice point guard overtime. Also, he can stick the 3 and mid-range jumper. He would be extremely cheap compared to Barry, Snow, and Fisher. I think Snow should not even be considered since he is getting such an outrageous amount.
He was coming off the bench behind a washed up Gary Payton...through the second half of last season into the playoffs everyone knew that Fisher was much better than Payton and should be starting. I am on the Fisher bandwagon not just because of that last second shot, but because he has hit shots in the clutch throughout his career. When the Rockets are in game 7, down by 2 with 10 seconds left, Mcgrady and Yao are going to be double teamed. If a guy like Fisher is there, they will think twice before leaving him. Passing is overrated...are Brent Barry and Troy Hudson good passers? The important thing to look at is turnovers, and Fisher doesn't turn the ball over. We should really take a lesson from the Lakers. Too many stars won't work. We've already tried that with Dream, Barkley, and Pippen. Bottom line is, Fisher brings the 3 point shot with clutch shooting and has the intangibles that we need.
+ Fisher isn't selfish, he's a leader, and he has 3 rings. - Fisher is 30, expensive, and gets torched often.
I would cringe every time Fisher shot the ball against the Rox cuz I knew it was going in. Dude has game.
Why do people say he can hit the 3? He could hit the 3, now you better hope he doesn't need to. And he opted out of $3+million contract. I know he wants to start again, but do you think he wants a pay cut or is he worth more than that?
