Have you gone to the My Computer folder right clicked on C: drive Properties and left clicked on disk clean-up? From there you can remove some files. After that you can click (same folder) more options which will let you clean out junk you never use that takes up space.
When you went to explore through start did you go to the cookies folder and delete all those? There are also a few other folders such as downloaded internet files that may have unneeded junk...you might have to just search through a few of the folders. Look at Temp, offline web pages, history, cookies...etc.
If you don't clear up enough space you may want to consider changing to a new operating system. I'm not sure how large win 98 is, but I think its quite large at least a gig or more. Win Xp is 2 gigs, but Win Me is only 350 megs and is basically a copy of the Mac operating system from a couple of years ago. I use Win Me at home and I like it, no problems with crashes so far which is 2 years now. (Knock on wood). Its simple which keeps it from crashing, and since its a couple years old you can get free someplace i'm sure...;)
Have you been able to figure out the amount of space freed up so far?

    1. Double Click on My Computer
    2. Right Click on Local Disk ( C: )
    3. Click on Properties, it should be at the bottom of the pop-up menu.

Stupidmoniker: I went to where you told me to.

They had a compress file folder. I tried that. After 10 minutes, it told me I had an error, and to fix it. So I clicked the find errors in my computer.

It kept getting to 25-29% complete, and then it restarted. After 10 times it said something was interfering. I tried Thorough search. Same result.

I'm really getting pissed. Why in the world can't I delete some of this needless crap?!?

The file 'type' wouldn't be Temp Internet Files. It would be JPEGs, GIFs or just plain Files.

When you do the find, look for the files in the folder C:\WINDOWS\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files.

Then delete them as I described. I can almost guarantee this will fix your problem.
