Again, opting out after year 3 allows the new team to do the 10.5% raises, and add extra years making up the initial lost revenue..

Also true that the CBA might change the landscape.

Lebron will NEVER play with Wade!!! Why would he??? For every championship they earn together, that's one more Wade will have on him. Why do you all think World Wide Wess is saying that James wants to pair up with Chris Paul??? If i were Lebron I would much rather pair up with CP3 than CB4 and therefore ALL of this speculation. Lebron should go play with Dwight Howard and CP3 in Orlando.

Yes and 3-4% is bigger than 2.5% which is how much more the home team can pay. Also your ideas on endorsement dollars not being there is not accurate IMO. NewYork City is the biggest advertising mecca in the world. It's reported that Nike may double Lebrons dollars if he moves to new York. That may not be completely accurate but you can bet they will pay more. And just the local advertising will increase by leaps and bounds.

I am almost certain Mac Hail Chevrolet won't be able to spend the Dollars that Manhattan Mercedes can. Make no mistake about it. Lebrons advertising Dollars will increase significantly in New York over Cleveland or Houston. Plus his shirt sales will skyrocket. So if he wants the dollars and he says he does. Than New York is where he wants to be. Not Green Acres.

I'm VERY surprised that no one has yet to mention that player does NOT need to lose those $30 mil by going to the under-the-cap teams.

After the player makes up his mind, he can always tell his current team to do the SnT with the under-the-cap team and get the full value. -- Even though the under-the-cap team will not have as many attractive assets as we do, the fact that they are under the cap means they can make the SnT without sending any salary back to the original team, while the original team will gain a monsterous trade exception for a year. This couple with some future draft picks will likely be enticing enough for the original team to cooperate in the SnT in most cases...

The 2.5% compounds though. In the first year, you're paying 2.5% more; in the 2nd year, you're paying more than 5% more, etc.

Nike's not going to double Lebron's advertising dollars - that's just crazy. He's already as big a star as he's going to be. Playing in NY is not going to make him appreciably more marketable. It would certainly be true for a lesser star or even a Dwayne Wade type, but not a Lebron. He's already been hyped up and marketed by the NBA as much as is humanly possible.

Mac Hail Chevrolet and Manhattan Mercedes pay peanuts compared to what he gets from Nike, Gatorade, etc. Those local ad dollars aren't going to even register on the scale.

    meh, close enough. :p

My point still stands. There is still a difference even on a per-year salary basis.

And again, what you say is only true if the play remains productive for the duration of his contract. Bosh is not 22 years old, where he'll still command top dollars when his current contract expires.

He is also not free of any injury risk. There's a reason why NFL contract numbers don't matter for the most part, only the guaranteed part does.
