Yesterday, Rockets were a 5 pt underdog. They covered (easily, all they needed to do to cover, was lose by less than 4, or win)

As for the straight up (money line), they'd have been around +175, which means, to put it easily, means you'd have won 175 bucks for betting 100. (You also get your 100 back, on top of the 175)

Rockets tonight are 5.5 pt favorites, so they have to win by 6 to win against the spread.

They're -220, which means, you need to bet 220 bucks to win 100.

    Maybe... just a guess.

Try centsports. You can see how sports gambling works without losing any money.

Their faq explains how lines and point spreads work. Look towards the bottom of the page.

If you only bet what you can afford you'll never get the true gambling experience. It's important to always bet a little more then what's comfortable, enough to make you nervous. That's the key to really get the juices flowing and experiencing the euphoric high that comes from victory or even in defeat.

A good Superbowl Proposition bet is better both Manning and Brees for MVP. Manning is +175 to win MVP and Brees is +400. So put $100 on each. You'll be guaranteed to lose one bet, so that's minus $100, but if Manning wins, then you'll win $175, for a net win of $75. If Brees wins, you'll win $400 for a net win of $300.

It looks like a good bet to me because who else would win MVP other than Manning or Brees? Worst case is you lose $200. But to me, it looks like you have a really good chance of winning.

Are you sure you saw Manning at +175 as opposed to -175? The site I look at shows Manning at -200 and Brees at +300.

It's perfectly legal to spend $1000 gambling if you do it by buying government-provided lottery tickets.

But it's very illegal to spend $1000 on a football game, and it's heavily enforced and prosecuted by the government.

... and the odds of winning with the lottery are much, much worse.

That's a direct and blatant indicator of extreme political corruption in this country.

    Sad, isn't it?

The government can be looked at as the house in this case, and the house always gets a cut. You can't go into casino and set up your own blackjack table.

Talked like a true gambler. LOL. I'm with that guy. I don't gamble often. I just have the the itch sometimes but I don't go crazy when I do gamble. What I usually do is set aside a certain amount to gamble with and if I lose all that money, then I'll get a little depress but I will quit instead of trying to win my money back.

The stupid thing about these kinds of bets is that someone gets to decide. For example, "how many times will she be shown on TV" is in control of the producer. He could go bet a fortune on it and then make the outcome whatever he wants.

They have a limit on how much you can bet on these types of bets. Otherwise you know the mob would be getting to the producers to fix them.

On there, total rushing attempts by Addai has an O/U of 12.5, and skewed odds:

The Under 12.5 is at +200
The Over 12.5 is at -250

haha yeah at -250 it's clearly not gonna be 12.5 anywhere with normal odds. Poor statement of facts earlier

I placed a 10 dollar bet that the coin flip will turn out heads. Wish me luck. I wasn't comfortable betting the game.

you should be just as comfortable betting the game as the coin flip. In theory, it should be pretty close to a 50/50 proposition with the line
