it should be better and more fluid as ariza isn`t a *ball stopper* per say, he keeps the passes going til the open man, i`m sure once Yao gets back as well as mac, everything should blend in well, much better than that with artest.
Obviously, the passing and cutting will improve with Ariza over Artest. I am just looking at Brooks, Battier, and Ariza out there together and I can't see anything besides Brooks is the only guy that can dribble and create his shot. So, we get Battier and Ariza passing, passing, passing, cutting, cutting, cutting, and then they wind up with the rock with 6 seconds left on the shot clock and a single defender on them 20 feet from the rim. Can either one of those guys upfake, dribbble around and get to the rim? Can either one of those guys rise up and shoot over the top? Can Brooks effectively distribute when the defense collapses as he dribbles through the paint area? Or are we more likely to see a two dribble pass from him out to the perimeter, giving the defense time to reset and rotate. (Brooks' passing has to improve or we ain't going far.) I am a huge Battier fan. I love the guy. But offensively, he is just not explosive. He is a 3 offensively, not a 2. Playing him at the 2 offensively and letting the opponent's shooting guard defend him effectively takes Shane out of the offense. All he is left with is spotting up for the 3 ball as he is going to be slower afoot than any other starting 2 guard in the league and they will all be able to take away any kind of dribble drive along with negate any cuts he makes because they are all quicker and more athletic. Even when Shane plays the 3, he is only middle of the pack athletic and a lot of the time is stuck with the spot up corner 3 ball shot as more athletic defenders take away his driving ability and his cutting ability and his midrange game is nonexistent. He just doesn't have the shooting mechanics, hops, and quickness to get off an effective jumper from midrange with a defender close to him. And he does not have the speed and quickness to complete a curl move. He is a Bruce Bowen offensively. Put him in the corner, let him get the wide open spot up 3 ball and every once in a while when the defense severely overplays him, he can cut backdoor and if no help arrives he can finish the layin. Other than that, you can run him in the post if the defense trys to defend him small and they don't have a post defensive presence out there (very rare moments). My instinct is that we need another 6'5" to 6'8" perimeter player that can dribble, get his shot off, that can beat a defender one on one, and can pass the basketball a little bit. Yeah, I know, I am describing a healthy TMac. Or Ginobilli. Or DWade. But...........where is the next value proposition at the shooting guard position that can bring decent size, athleticism, a handle and a shot, along with being able to play solid defense? Surely we have the assets to acquire a guy like that, a veteran on a non-playoff team that can actually bring some of this to the table for us?
I don't see why they couldn't. I personally am looking forward to seeing Ariza in our offense. I'm not saying that he is going to light it up, but he will suprise many. I also believe that AB is gonna go off this year and will be able to break down and create not only for himself, but for the rest of the guys on the floor. I am very optomistic that we will have a very successful regular season like last year, but will need a quality low post presence in order to do anything significant in the post-season.
I don't see why they couldn't make it work. Ariza seems like a pretty smart guy and we know Shane can pretty much adapt to any situation you throw him into. Our team is full of interchangeable parts... with the exception of Yao... he sort of sticks out
Peja at his prime was still a spot up sharpshooter more than anything else, and both Battier and Ariza can do that to some extent. AB can approximate what Bibby does, and anything that Christie can do Ariza can do better. I suppose you can see Andersen as a lesser version of prime Divac, and Scolandry can be our primary scorer in the paint the way Webber was for the Kings. Am I saying the Rox will perform like the Kings? Not at all, but all the chicken littles who are saying the team will fall apart because Battier and Ariza can't play together are overreacting. What makes RA's offense unique is that you don't really need playmakers more than you need shooters and scorers. As far as the offense is considered, you really only need 1 guy to hold the ball and another guy who can score in the paint. As long as that person is good enough to warrant a double team then you're all set. The rest of the team can be spot-up shooters or cutters, it doesn't matter because the constant ball movement will find the open man.
Nope. Both need other players to create space or chances for them. Without Yao, Tmac and to a certain extend Ron. Teams now can and should guard Rox 1 on 1. Hence no extra space. And with AB as the PG, he will create chances for himself, but it will be tough to see him set others up for shots. Hence lack of spot up shots. Having said that, RA old king's team. Can be one of the best offensive team in the league with Cristie and Peja along with Bibby as PG. Hopefully he can prove me wrong.
of course they can play the 2 and 3; hell, they can even play the 4 and 5, but that's not the point will they be successful playing the 2 and 3 is another question and i don't think they are capable of being successful since neither has any one-on-one offensive game
As long as They play within the system of Adelman, They would be successful. The motion offense were constant movements are done can create offensive opportunities.
I don't think Ariza can handle the ball as well as Christie and that is the one area that we would struggle with having only Brooks as a ball handler. I voted yes in the poll because I think they "could" play together but I will have to see some ball handling from Ariza that I haven't seen to say they will be successful on offense. If you put Lowry in for Brooks with Ariza and Shane out there we would be TOUGH on perimeter D but the offense would be anemic. I'm excited to see what RA is gonna do with this group but I'm not overly optimistic unless Tracy comes back healthy or we trade him for a decent wing with handles.
play within the system? we can get 5 point guards on the floor at the same time and play true to the system. but thats gonna be one heck of a dysfunctional crap team if we did that. shane and trevor and both true SFs. obviously cant play together.
i dont think he's got that ability right now, there's a small chance he may be able to develop into that that, but i dont think he's got that much offense at this moment..
YES. They are a better match than Battier/Artest because Artest and Battier played the same style pf basketball. Ariza will be able to compliment Battier's spot up three's by driving the ball inside and kicking it to someone who will then kick it to Battier. The only way I see us winning more than half our games is if we make a ton of three's. If we don't shoot I high percentage then the other team is going to get ample opportunities do to our poor rebounding ability.
What do the Rox do if Mcgrady comes back in Nov. Where do you put Ariza and Battier if Tmac is playing the SG position?
i really do see this happening beause we dont have other options and i didnt envision this lineup once artest left and trevor was signed. They may not be explosive offesivly but our defense is gona be a recking crew and will ignite our fast break
