The way I see his salary, I dont think they have the ability to match in the Summer of 2015. From what I see, he goes unrestricted in 2015 either way unless the Rockets can work out an extension by October 31st 2014. Not sure if that's right though...
Depends on too many factors to know right now. 1) How much better does Parsons get, if at all? 2) Does he stay healthy especially in his contract year? 3) How deep is Les willing to go into the tax? 4) What player(s) does Morey add via free agency between now and then? 5) Draft stuff (1% chance we get Shabazz or whoever if we miss the playoffs)
How about all the players that are under performing rip up their contracts and renegotiate lower pay. Once that happens the team front offices will rip up all their contracts that they underpay. All is now well! Virgins riding unicorns will appear and they will come give us each a pot of gold!
Chandler Parsons making peanuts for one more year could be crucial towards our ability to sign another max free agent/to trade for a max player. Hopefully he can see the situation from that angle as well and the team is able to capitalize on that and then give him a fair contract a year later. ( And hopefully the max guy can play like one, nobody wants to see another Barkley/Pippen scenario..)
No... you misunderstood me. Im talking about his contract. Maybe this is a Bima or Larry Coon question since the info online is sketchy about this. Im talking about a qualifying offer that they DO NOT have in his contract(based on the info online about it), that would have given them the ability to make his a restricted free agent if they had that option, and he was set to receive more than that in free agency. Since he doesn't have one, and the fact that he's a 2nd round pick that will play more than 2 seasons in the NBA without becoming a free agent, under the CBA rules, doesn't that mean he will become an UNrestricted free agent without the ability for the Rockets to match in 2015?
Jeremy Lin shoots terribly from the field for 10 games while still doing the little things to help the team: "HE IS TEH JOkE!!1!" Chandler Parsons shoots terribly from the field for 10 games while still doing the little things to help the team: "Can we give him a raise so his freaking feelings don't get hurt?"
The 900k is just the start. He is/will get plenty of sponsorship deals, including his Chinese shoe deal ala Chuck Hayes 44's. He will get a nice payday when his contract runs out. He'll get his 20-30m contract and be set for life. He's almost set for life already unless he has insane expensive tastes. I never understand the whole "Athlete's aren't overpayed, they only have a decade to make all of their money." argument. Like, who couldn't take 5million and live off the dividend checks? Obviously he's worth more than his contract, but the entire point of having a smart GM is to underpay enough talent to assemble a championship team. Obviously you will have overpaid players from time to time, the entire point is having a team with much higher value than the max cap. Giving a player a raise when they "deserve" does not make any sense.
Not really... if that was the case, they would have worked out(or will work out) an agreement before October 31st of the next year before the team option is picked up to extend his contract for the maximum amount allotted.
Sigh. Of course the team will pick up his option. It is SOP in the NBA. He will get paid in due course. And you should think about creating threads in the future. Just say no.
To be fair, Lin is getting paid $8M per year on average while Chandler is getting paid just under a million. However, you have a point about their production... Jeremy Lin, 14.0 PER... Chandler Parsons, 14.8 PER...
for a basketball player, anything below 2mil is "bad" especially parsons is averaging what? 40mins a game?
There is this little thing called the salary cap. The Rockets need all of the cap space possible to try and land the best free agent when available or to be able to get a significant player in a trade. Giving Parsons a raise, while probably fair to him, is not going to happen because it would take away some of the advantage Houston has created for itself by giving them a lot of room under the cap. If Chandler keeps playing like he is now he will get a very nice raise in the summer of 2015.
Don't worry, if Parsons goes broke he can stay at Lin's place. As long as Lin is on the team, he can also potentially get an endorsement from Chinese companies in the future and get his big pay day from the Rockets later.
