That Youtube video of Yao makeing the fadway on Chris Caveman... looks like he's saying ..."you can't f-n stop me"....
you're right that yao has physical limitations. but do you think yao's truly using all his physical advantages to the max? yao is potentially a physically DOMINANT force. you're right he cant jump and he is slow but he's just that much bigger and stronger than anyone else on the court. look at how guys 6'10" and bigger just bounce off yao. around the basket, late in the game there's still a lot more yao could do to initiate hard contact to the benefit of his team the problem yao has, especially finishing with contact is that he's going up there trying to stay in his own space and not commit a foul on offense, meanwhile the other guy is hacking yao as hard as he possibly can. if yao played with aggression, he could go up and run over people without conscience like shaq as soon as he knew he'd get the call from the official. he'd intimidate a lot of people and convert the AND 1 with much better percentage. if yao would keep his elbows up and use them to punish people that alone would cut down on strips and TOs no one is born with a mean streak. people learn to be competitive through hardship in sports. if yao gets mad enough he'll change as a player. the question is what's his threshold? most players never get to that really mean point it's the same thing as with tmac... tmac usually is content to sit back and rely on his jumper but he has the potential to take it up a level and start driving on people... the question is... what does it take to motivate him to that level?
Getting angry when he is being wronged by the refs, opposing players or whomever is one thing. Playing with a chip on his shoulder at all times will, IMO, affect his game negatively. Yao seems to get flustered and lose focus when he becomes angry or frustrated.
Hakeem didn't teach him jack. He said Lean!! Lean! Which means when you go to the hoop, go strong towards it and lean toward the basket. Yao? Ummm no.
Lol yea thats what I thought too. I saw that video of Yao's ejection and I noticed no one besides the two assistant coaches/trainers/?/? reacted to his blowing up. They're were all just staring at him like nothing happened Yao's attempt at chucking a towel in anger did kinda seemed awkward to me; maybe he's just an amateur at expressing his emotions on the court
Do you not see him dunk it ever or something? You speak as if he never does. You also must not be taking notice that when he does choose to dunk it, he actually yells sometimes. It even surprised me. I, do however, think that we might see a different Yao on the court now. Or...I hope we do. One that won't complain to the refs, but just plays hard. if he gets 2 quick offensive fouls so be it. I would like him to come out and just dare them to do that. It also has been a while since that he got ejected, and he's had time to simmer dahn and think about it. So we'll see tonight.
i am puzzled why other guys have no response(scola ...... i mean Yao is their teamate, they just express some care about it instead of cold in their eyes
Man I wish Yao would just realize being pI$$ed off on the court all the time will help his issues with the refs. Just play like it is a CNT game to get to the Olympics. Maybe get into heavy metal music, something that will motivates him.
yao should pull a dave cowens i remember reading back when he was on the celtics an opposing player flopped against him and the refs called a foul on him. cowens was livid at the foul..next play down cowens basically tackled the guy hard and looked at the ref and yelled "now thats a foul!" get a few flagrants on people coming down the lane, raise the elbows up high...you have to play a bit dirty for a little bit so the opposing players play in fear and respect. right now a lot of the smaller guys probably feel they can handle yao because of what they can do. if they crowd you swing an elbow, like what duncan did to chuck send a message out. yao has to do it himself
I feel that Yao is a product of his personality and the NBA officiating that he has received in the past half decade. He can't go strong to the hoop (offensive foul) and he can't defend unless he's standing straight up like a 7'6" stiff (otherwise, it is a defensive foul).
He's been pretty clutch for us in crunch time this year. Name another rocket player who has been better at the end of games this year?
