Maybe you should pay attention and do research before you spout off. The post doesn't say for the sole reason that he has a jumpshot he should be a 3. It's mentions his quickness and athletic ability first and foremost. The doing research part is about Amare. Did you judge his 3-pt range based on his 10 career made 3-pters? If he has 3-pt range so does Yao Ming. Anyone can shoot a three thus having the range going by the way you use it.
Carl Landry was again da man again tonight!! 19 pts 5 rebounds and scoring from all over the place! Yaoza!!
Apologies to all and the thread starter. My post was harsh, induced by mild frustration with the Bonzi trade. The thread just seemed to be a Morey-Alexander apologist thread. ("We don't need Bonzi! See! Landry can play the 3!") But on topic, offensively, Landry has shown no ability at all to handle the ball out on the perimeter, much less create off the dribble out on the perimeter. Can anyone imagine him with the ball, using a pick from Yao or Scola to turn the corner and penetrate or pull up for a J? Or have him spot up on the arc to wait for a kickout spotup three pointer? Me neither. Defensively, maybe he can guard SF's in rare situations, but that's not something you'd want him doing regularly I don't think. That's not enough to designate him a SF. Bobby Jones, anyone?
I'll tell you what. If he develops a 3-ball shot that he can hit at 40%........he's gonna earn some major jack.
I think it's possible for Landry to play SF, but why would we want to? Landry's biggest asset is his ability to rebound and finish around the basket. He's a decent mid-range shooter, but the Rockets don't want him camp out at the 3 point line all day. He may be able to defend opposing 3s, but he'll always have a problem in terms of quickness on defense. There's nothing wrong with the Landry/Scola/Yao rotation at the 4/5 spot, with Hayes being the injury replacement. I think it should remain this way.
If Landry develops a 3 pt shot he can hit at 40% OMG. Nobody will be able to stop him. He already has a great dribble drive although he hasn't shown it off yet. He is consistent with his shot now out to about 18 ft. Just needs to extend his range out to the NBA 3 pt line. For those who say he doesn't have handles, haven't followed his collegiate career. Dude single handedly drove the ball himself with a variety of spin moves into the teeth of the Florida defense against Joachim Noah and Al Horford and did it successfully.
Amen. He drove a lot in college and did it well. He's not great at it but good. He could become like an Amare driving in. He's so much quicker than other fours he can take two or three steps and elevate for a lay in or dunk like Amare does so much. (Note: he will never be as good as Amare not trying to say that here). I think it's certainly possible but I prefer he stay at PF he has the mismatches there. Two things I wanted to say. One he is playing as much center as he is PF. Half the time he's in it is in replacement of Yao. Deson't lay like a center but thats who he replaces. The other thing is he defended Wade for about six possessions down the stretch last night. That shows he can guard the perimeter and that Adelman trusts his D enough to do that.
Oh and can we quit with this if he can develop a 40 percent 3-pt shot. 40 percent from three is the borderline for elite 3-pt shooters he will never be that. He's capable of hitting a three if left completely open. He will never shoot the three much at all if ever. He made and attempted very very few in college and that is just a long jumper in pro's. He could be a desperate option if needed. He should devolp the three to level of say Barkley. (haven't actually looked up numbers to see if its a good model just going from memory).
If Landry developes a 3 point shot, his game will remind very much of a young Robert Horry without the blocking ability.
The 2 and 3 are relatively interchangeable. So why stop at SF let's move Landry to the 2 guard. He'll be able to slow down Wades, Kobes and Iversons and if our point guards are in foul trouble you can just slide him over for a few minutes to cover Chris Paul and Parker and Nash.
How are we going to hold onto this guy in the offseason? Some team with capspace is going to offer him a big front-loaded contract and poof!! he's gone.
Last night against Miami, there was a stretch when we had Brooks, Yao, Battier, Novak & Landry on the court at the same time. Guess who played what position?
I'm laughing at all the posts about Landry developing a 3 point shot that he can hit at over 40%. You make it sound so easy. Imagine, if Rafer Alston could do it, we'd have a good point guard on the team.
He could be a point foward for all i care; but he needs to be locked down by management ASAP to a four year deal. Bullard has said multiple times, and bullard would not lie, that landry could easily develop in to a good three point shooter with that stroke. The spacing he would create from the 4
