http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/rumors/...t=AoubOWtZWBnNAQ2hZRaFffKNPKB4?urn=nba-368220 A link on Chandler expressing his interest to enter free agency. The only problem I have about getting him is that we would have to overpay him to obtain him. Once he's overpaid he only becomes an average center, imo. Plus, I don't think this is a Morey-move. Chandler is overvalued at the moment which will only create bidding wars. I don't have to tell this board that Morey seeks the undervalued players that can produce below the radar.
It's obvious from Morey and McHale's statements from the time that he was hired that we aren't going to do that (renounce players for the sole purpose of creating cap room). We're going to do our best to stay competitive while waiting for the opportunity to trade for a superstar. That doesn't mean they won't be cautious as usual when handing out contracts. But I don't think you'll see them let rotation players walk to save money. If we keep drafting well and developing talent, we'll eventually have enough desirable pieces to trade for an available superstar (just like NJ did for D.Williams). They'll be cautious, staying flexible enough with the salary cap to be able to trade for a max contract, and with a little luck we'll eventually have a shot at someone. But I don't think you'll see us clear salary just to be able to sign a max player outright.
IMO we need a stretch/defensive center. He is only defensive thus not the perfect fit for our team... Max money must be a perfect fit for the TEAM. No thanks
Please explain this again to the guy who started this topic. Mark Cuban fully understands that he gets to sleep with the Larry O' Brien trophy because he FINALLY went out and got a true center. Chandler wants to get PAID and Mark is standing by to pay him. If anyone actually thinks that Les has the stones to throw down against Cuban in this, they seriously need to rethink their position.
This all might change with Yao's retirement today. Working on a salary cap update that speaks more to this point. Hope to get it out in the next few days.
Hey Bima, question for you: With Yao's sudden retirement, does that mean his $18,000,000+ cap hold is gone?
Basically, yes. I suppose if the Rockets really wanted to retain Yao's Bird rights in case he changed his mind, and if Yao's paperwork is not officially and irrevocably filed with the league office (I think he simply notified the league so far), then they might be able to keep him on the books, where his cap hold could join those of fellow retirees Dikembe Mutombo and Mark Jackson. But given this news, and it coming (apparently) directly from Yao and the league office, it's a safe bet that the Rockets will renounce Yao's rights (and lose his cap hold) either this summer or next summer, depending on whether there are any advantages to being over the cap this summer (i.e., any cap exceptions that survive into the new CBA).
Hey Bima another question: If his contract was up and he was a free agent, how could he have a cap hold?
Literally the only reason I'd be slightly interested in signing Chandler is to reduce the chances of Dallas repeating. That's it. That's the only reason I'd want him - and for that reason I'd just as soon see him sign elsewhere. I just hope he doesn't remain in Dallas.
As always, Larry Coon can explain it much better than I can: http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm#Q31
Sign and Trade Scola to Mavs sinse Chandler wants around 10-13mill per season and are above the hard cap. This will probably help out both teams, I see this as a win win trade for both teams. Chandler fits our style better, plus we need a C! Throw in a damn 1st rounder if needed.
Well, Minnesota can't offer the max after draft trades and the signing of Rubio. New Jersey actually has Lopez and Humphries... The teams that can offer max money -or almost- have already their own centers. From the rest, I think that just Denver could offer Nene big money. Charlotte, Golden State, Detroit, Toronto... are in our same numbers. Cuban is going to be lucky and will resign Chandler at a good price, basically because there's nobody out there willing or able to offer much more.
after dallas we should be the frontrunners if new york dont try to sign him i dont think they wil because they wouldnt then have the flexibility to get paul of the teams left to sign we are the only one with a winning record i dont think tyson would wanna go from winning the championship to toronto or gs , and he said this morning that he believes he will be with a new team next week and with new teammates in training camp so lets hope morey can make it happen tyson chandler makes us a much better team offensively and would be good cover for scola on defense , then we could change our intentions to getting a good small forward which is easier to find then a center , any team centered around a starting 4 of lowry , martin , scola , chandler could compete especially as the bottom teams in the west are falling off ( denver , utah , phoenix , new orleans ) we can leapfrog em instantly maybe get up to a 7 seed maybe higher because honestly the only teams better than us in the west would be okc , memphis , lal , sas , dallas , portland ... u gotta think we can compete with all of them if we are good defensively .. babysteps is the way because we can see were not gana get dwight or paul so if we build a legit team now maybe eventually free agents would wanna come
Chandler at 29 isn't worth more than $7 million for 3 years to me. He has an injury history and seems to play well only in contract years.
