Dont forget that the illegal defense rules of Hakeems era are gone. Even if we had him back, with today's rules he wouldn't be nearly as great as he was.
I wonder what his game would of evolved into if the NBA always had the zone. Or how good Yao would be without it and with the old (better) rules.
Hakeem worked extremely hard on his game every summer. He even proposed big men get togethers where the 10 best centers in the league would each teach other 2 new moves. He said that yes centers would be giving away 2 moves, but they would be learning 18 new ones. That kind of desire to improve the game, would produce results no matter what the rules were. He might have developed his game differently, but he would have still been successful.
You guys laugh but have any of you seen Dream play against some of the current players in pick-ups? He still schools the majority of them not because he's in top physical shape but because there's really nobody who plays like Dream in the league today.
Are you guys forgetting how much Hakeem had declined in his last few years in the league? Wait, why did I even ask that. Clearly you have forgotten entirely. He was one of the greatest centers of all times, but his body gave out on him towards the end. He just couldn't do the things he used to. The idea that just because Deke can still play means that Hakeem could still play makes absolutely no sense. First of all, their games are VERY different. Hakeem depended heavily on his quickness and athleticism, both of which are gone. Deke doesn't have to be athletic to do what he does. Not to mention, some players bodies just hold together longer than others. Just because Roger Clemens and Nolan Ryan still pitched well into their forties doesn't mean every great pitcher is going to do so. That's just common sense.
his knees were going bad on him and it showed in his last two seasons with the rockets. obviously he didn't do any better in toronto.
It still angers me to this day that he left the team. I love players that stick with one franchise their entire career. Olajuwon/Malone/Jordan all come to mind. I love Bagwell/Biggio for that same very reason . . .
Just a 10-day contract......just 2 or 3 games until Deke is back fully. Like KJ did for the suns. But not sure if he was 40.
But, did each of those players stay with one franchise? Did ANY of them stay? I'm no communications major, just tooooo many thoughts trying to come out at once.
I loved Hakeem as a player when he was at UH through all his years with the Rockets.I don't want him to come back and it still breaks my heart to remember him his last couple of years with the Rockets when his body just wouldn't do the things that had made him great.I remember after watching a game his last year with the Rockets they were showing a game from the Suns series in 95.I told my best friend thats the Hakeem I want to always remember not the one thats playing now, because thats not him thats whats left after the injuries got the best of him.As we all know father time gets everyone eventually just some faster than others.
I love Dream and in my heart I believe he could still play but my head tells me no way and it might just be embarrassing to watch him get out hustled by the likes of Brad Miller. The only good thing that I could see about bringing Dream back is to officially let him play his last game in a Rockets uniform. Maybe sign him to a ten day contract play him only about 5 min. a game and then have a great ceremony re-retiring number 34.
No they did not. And I figured that was the point you were trying to make, but the message was just contradictory.
That would be great to get Hakeem back, and if the Texans need a RB, I bet Earl would do a great job.
