We dont need Deke on offense, if he's on the court its because we need his D and rebounds. Adelman will probably put Deke on with the players on our team that can create their own shot (i.e. Francis/ James) so Deke doesn't have to worry about passing or contributing in the offense.
How much does it really matter? He won't get enough minutes for it to make much of a difference either way if ya ask me...
It's funny you mention Wells as not looking lost, I thought the same thing. I've read several posts about Bonzi looking lazy out there and I can see how you might think that but what I saw was a comfort level. He didn't look like he was worried about his minutes or showing what he could do he was just playin. I'm not a Bonzi fan mostly because I don't like what he did last season regardless of JVG or anything else but he may actually be the difference this season.
People just don't get it. Adelman's offense when Deke is on the floor is the Deke + [insert 4 players] offense. That means if Deke + Scola + Battier + Francis + Alston are on the floor at the same time then offense will conform to the skills of those players. Adelman is all about getting the players comfortable enough with feeling for free space on the floor and backdoor cuts so that he doesn't even have to call set plays. It would be like you and your buddies playing on the same pick-up team for several years. There is no set offense per se but it still works.
