The main problem with Cook is his lack of professionalism, otherwise he might have been able to carve out a role in the league. He can't do anything for us.
For all the hate I have for Cook he is actually a good professional he just sucks plain and simple thats all
Andersen will be better than Cook. Undoubtedly. That shouldn't even be a topic of discussion. But count me among those that believe Cook can help. He's 6-10, with great range and sets good screens. He can be valuable in 10-12 minute spurts because opposing bigs will have to go out there and cover him from deep. I'd like to see him get a chance to show what he can really do. With the slashing of Ariza, Brooks, McGrady (maybe) and maybe Taylor, he could do some damage spotting up for open looks behind the arc.
Cook once had starters talent and got 20 mpg (on a weak team albeit). Anderson didn't put up any significantly better numbers in his lengthy career in europe. He was drafted in 02 but wasn't even considered to be NBA ready until a desperate Morey lost out on Gortat and ravaged the bargain bins. I'll take a proven NBA player than some Euro-"potential"
Cook can certainly help this team. He can bring them water/gatorade when thirsty. He can hand players towels as they head to the bench. Lastly he can take the team out to dinner everyday with Les' money.
Babby fat cook... He could help but he would have to put time in to get in shape. He is not very athletic when he is under 300 lbs anyway. At his current weight he is nothing but a spot up bench warmer.
That's what I am saying. It is not like I expect him to be our starting C or PF and play 30 minutes a game. Just give him a chance, you can ALWAYS bench him. He can shoot and he is a veteran. In my opinion he may be useful sometimes.
Agreed. The guy does not stay in shape. He usually goofs off during warm-ups before the game. And whenever he gets garbage time, rather than running Adelman's offense, he just starts chucking. When was the last time any garbage-time player has impressed his coach by breaking off the offense and chucking? It's like he didn't even care to be playing NBA basketball. Sure, he can be a good cheerleader. But that is ancillary to being prepared as a player to contribute on the court. Cook has shown no such desire or preparation.
If we still had JVG as a coach I might drink some "Cook hasn't had a chance yet" coolaid, but I fully believe that if he could help the Rockets win RA would have found a way to use him.
BimaThug , don't tell me you're comparing euroleague to the nba. Isn't trajon langdon jordan like over there? Anderen has done 0 in the nba. Jasecavochik, plannic, v-span to name a few of the euro superstars. I'm not saying cook is the answer, but there isn't anything you can say that u saw that you can say andersen is worth a crap. I can't say it and I've watched 20 games of film on him.
101 to 6 as of now. I guess that means there are at least 6 members of Cook's family with CF accounts.
I heavily disagree with that. Scola played center many times last year while Yao was out and scored around 19-20 points each time.
leebigez, Francis 4 Ever was talking about not having any reasons to BELIEVE that Andersen would be better than Cook. First of all, the bar is set pretty damn low to begin with, there. Also, Euroleague success DOES give people REASON TO BELIEVE that a player might be more than a scrub's scrub in the NBA. There have been several successful Euroleague big men to make the transition to the NBA with some success: Fabricio Oberto, Luis Scola, Marc Gasol, to name a few. Also, a VERY big reason to believe that David Andersen will be a better player than Brian Cook is the fact that Daryl Morey and the rest of the Rockets' front office thought highly enough of him to pay Atlanta $2M (plus a future second rounder) for Andersen's draft rights and to subsequently sign the guy to a 3-year, $7.5M deal. If there was no reason to believe that Andersen was not at least better than Brian Cook, then Morey would have just stuck with Brian Cook as his starting or backup center.
