No problem. As for the skeptics about Bill White's chances in the general, I understand you thinking that way, but also continue to disagree. While this state has had a conservative bent for many, many years, the state has elected people to statewide office far to the left of Bill White. Jim Hightower and (my personal favorite) Ralph Yarborough are two examples. Yarborough had run several times for governor in the 1950's and lost to US Senator Price Daniel in his last attempt. When Daniel resigned to become governor, Yarborough won a plurality of the votes in the primary in the race to replace him and had an easy victory in November in Democratic Texas. He finished Daniel's term and then won two times himself. Most people won't be familiar with him, but Senator Yarborough was a national leader of the progressive wing (the liberal wing) of the Democratic Party. This was no secret in Texas. The people didn't care. Senator Yarbrough is also famous for being with JFK in the motorcade when he was killed. I saw the Senator, Governor Connally, and the President from about 25 feet away when they drove down Broadway to the Gulf Freeway from what's now Hobby Airport, the day before Dallas and the nightmare. It was Yarborough who came out of the hospital when Kennedy died and said, "Excalibur has sunk beneath the waves." Never assume in Texas. Just when you think you have the conventional wisdom figured out, the people will surprise you. They've done it before.
It is amazing how with his "millstone" record and his many "enemies" he has been elected multiple times. Seriously, by populism I mean the anti-Washington sentiment that is building at an ever increasing rate. Historically, this is not uncommon in times of economic downturn; however, the current circumstances may be somewhat unique.
If Perry doesnt **** up he wins. Texas politics is pure garbage and Perry figured out how to win within the system a while back. I've spent 4 months working on the governor's race and it's completely his to lose from everything I've seen. I really like Bill White but he cant win without some serious help from Perry.
You're referencing an age of Texas politics that no longer is true. I can point to even more seemingly liberal or progressive democratic candidates that won statewide office all the way until the 80s but since then that's all changed. Those types of candidates dont win anymore and Texas by and large doesnt elect people like that anymore. And that trend doesnt just apply to Texas. There are other states in the South with similar history but democratic candidates that rode the coat tails of decades of dominance in politics are gone. The Republicans broke through several states and congressional districts in the 80s and 90s and changed everything in the south. I hate to be so cynical but I just dont like White's chances.
I also know a lot of members of the teaparty and young conservatives of Texas and they are a joke. Majority of the young conservatives of Texas have never worked a day in their life nor paid taxes before. I'm not saying that a person shouldn't have an opinion but you can't complain about something you have never done in your life.
Rasmussen is done using robo calls. Efficient way to quickly generate poll results (which is why rasmussen has so many polls so quickly) but frankly a poor tool to actually analyze any contest if you ask me.
Um, OK I guess? I'm sorry you have bad experiences with some teapartiers and some young Republicans, but if you think all the entitled pricks born with a silver spoon in their mouths are teapartiers and Young Republicans, you have a lot to learn.
I don't need to learn anything. I call it like I see it. I'm sure not all teapartiers and Young Conservatives of Texas are entitled pricks as you say but the majority of the people I know fall in that list. I've seen their messages and they don't have a clue. You can't b**** if you're not the one paying taxes....
So you are now saying that teapartiers and young republicans are not taxpayers? I don't know what to say. I'll see aside the young republicans because I don't know any, but how many teaparty people do you actually know, and how many of them really don't pay taxes?
No what I'm trying to say is a lot of the members that I do know are just guys that complain about certain issues regarding taxes and they don't even have a job. I know a lot of people in Collegestation and that's what you see there... I'm sure there are just as many taxpayers as there are non-taxpayers in the teaparty. My issue is with people that are non-taxpayers that steadily complain about taxes. You can't complain about something that you currently don't do. I'm not against anyone with an opinion but unless its coming out of your pocketbook, then you talk b**** about taxes. Until then, STFU...
College kids, college graduates, people that just live off their parents and not work hard.... Did I leave anyone out?
How many people are we talking about here? Are you honestly telling me that you have this big circle of friends that are not working? Or are you just exaggerating the fact that you "know of" a few people? I'm being serious here.
I do know several folks and no I'm not exaggerating. Sorry this hit a spot for you homie... We all brothers in God's eyes my friend...
