Perry Voters=Racists, Bigots and Morons Thanks for the update there Glynch and Rhad. I hope both of you know that when you see a picture of Glenn Beck you are seeing your reflection on the other side of the ideological spectrum. Intolerant, inflammatory and disrespectful ideologues that hurt, rather than help the public discourse.
Gee, embellish much? You lambast a unanimity that was never stated. Edit: Seriously - do you expect the moronic teabagger crowd, the racists, or the gay-bashers to vote for Bill White? This isn't inflammatory rhetoric - this is just honesty. Now, your accusation however - that was inflammatory. Maybe when you think of the blatant disregard for context, accuracy and objective dialogue illustrated in Glenn Beck you should look in the mirror.
Can you explain what parts of Rick Perry's message/record you support then, I mean the guy's campaign's biggest boost has been suggesting that Texas secede from the Union. This is 2010 for god's sake. I'd like to know what the "substantive" Perry supporters would point to as one of his attributes or accomplishments.
Rhad I need to apologize. I got you confused with another frequent poster in this section of the BBS. I am slightly embarrassed (though I still am bothered by your agreement with Glynch's customary insulting post).
I don't support Rick Perry. I'm pretty sure I said in another thread that I will vote for whoever was running against him. Just because I'm not full of hatred for people who support candidates I don't like doesn't mean I like their candidate.
Great. You post this right after I edit my post and demonstrate my ability to fly into jerk-mode. Apology accepted and I apologize as well for the above rant. (Editing again to delete would be...dishonest, methinks)
I'm fine with the edit. I'll even address it. Edit: Thanks for accepting my apology. Of course not. But let's clarify some things... 1) Not all members of the teaparty are morons. I know because I personally know of two very intelligent, politically astute individuals who this weekend told me they were teapartiers. 2) Just because some of the racists and gay bashers vote for Rick Perry doesn't make it fair or appropriate to imply, which Glynch did, that this is the base of Perry's support. 3) Just like many morons will vote for Perry in this election, many uneducated idiots will vote for Bill White. I know this is hard for democrats to accept, but the large majority of all voters are politically stupid.
True, which is why I used the "moronic" adjective. I'd argue all of them misguided, however. Also true, but I do not think glynch or myself implied this. If I could rep you again for this statement I would. 10 times.
Hey I didn't say all Perry voters are toothless, gay and immigrant bashers and racists. These are among the primary reasons folks without a good deal of money vote for him. Oh, I forgot abortion. Quite a few Perry voters are well off and know what side their bread is buttered on. For instance they don't really care if the price of UT tuition has more than doubled in the last 7 years. They send their kids to private colleges or $4700 semster ,as stated in the Chronicle today with the latest increase, is chump change. Keeps the riff-raff out or at least heavily indebted so they don't go into trouble making fields like social work, education etc.
I know that D and D is very "left" leaning, but seriously people, White is not going to beat Perry in November. As a political independent I have never voted in a Republican primary. I have voted exclusively in Democratic primaries, and for the "best" candidate in the general election. BUT, the political winds are not that difficult to discern. Perry will win by 10 to 15 percentage points. In other words, it won't be close. Furthermore, if things continue in the direction they are going now, the Democratic party is going to take a serious thrashing in the Fall. If you don't see that coming, I don't know what to say.
I am also an independent who thinks Perry will probably win. But he won't win by 10-15 points unless White's campaign completely disintegrates. There is a lot of disgust with Perry by people who normally vote Republican. If the Dems nominated a mannequin, Perry would only win by 7-8 points. I'm not saying it will go down to the wire, but Perry is so pathetic that he is incapable of winning a landslide. Also keep in mind the November vote is 8 months away. We don't know exactly how much momentum Republicans will still have at that point. The economy will have a lot to do with it and the competence of White's campaign will be crucial. Only Nostradamus knows how those and others factors will affect November.
This is true, the political winds can change quickly, but the circus in D.C. is disconcerting and infuriating to many voters. Somebody needs to put the President, Pelosi, and Reid on a bus (to save money) and send them to the Clinton school of political strategy. These folks don't seem know when to "hold'em" and when to "fold'em."
I understand, but Perry hasn't focused his campaign on White yet. He will ride a wave of populism. Some Republicans may defect, but Independents will make up the difference and more. It's very early, but that is my take on the election. I predict the margin will widen.
Perry ride a wave of populism? Give me a break! He will ride a tidal wave of negativity. Sen. Hutchison (from Washington D.C.) is gone now. Perry is a 10-year incumbent governor who has been in Austin for 20 years. His record will hang on his neck like a millstone. Perry will win by chopping and cutting on Bill White. Anti-D.C. populism worked well against Hutchison for obvious reasons and because she ran a very weak campaign. Other than mud-slinging, the dynamic the next 8 months will be different.
