I'm just glad I don't have to see KBH's scary face on my tv anymore. Yikes that woman is ugly. on a more serious note, I really think the reason why repubs turned out like they did was because that was an actual race....Farouk Shami didnt have a chance against White and everyone knew it. Political climate that it is these days, I expect a much higher anti-Perry turnout when its time for the real thing.
I don't get this... You are planning to campaign "a lot" for someone that you aren't sure about in terms of ideology?
i know mayor bill's ideology, actually i am very well versed on his positions. i know perry's history too. not too solid on KBH. i just wanted someone's opinions on the gap between perry <-------> KBH <-------> white or at least, what texas voters might think. if mayor bill is a conservative democrat, can he take many of KBH's votes? i think bucman already alluded to this.
White will win Travis County. Austin cares more about getting rid of Perry than what White did for Houston as mayor.
Conservative Democrat may not be the right term for Bill White. He's not far-left, that's for sure. He's the kind of guy that a good number of disgusted Republicans can vote for instead of Perry. The key is how he manages his image and handles the nastiness of the coming campaign. Perry will hit him brutally & relentlessly and will try to define White before White has a chance to introduce himself to state voters.
OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH OK. I didn't get what you were looking for. Now I do. KBH is more like Skeletor than either of them.
People tend to forget that Texas voters can be a cranky, contrary bunch. Ann Richards got herself elected, although she had more charisma in her big toe than White has in his entire body. Bill White makes up for it by being amazingly organized, focused, intelligent and, most importantly, well funded. If the former Mayor can show a Texas electorate tired of Perry's act the side of the Governor that won the GOP primary, White's more than halfway there.
I really have no idea about his political positions I just know he is a problem solver and uses logic and reason above politics. I am hopeful that continues when he reaches a higher office.
He also has the ability to come across as Grandpa Joeish. He's articulate and intelligent and all those positive adjectives, but he can still present himself as folksy. I think he has a shot.
Does anyone else follow Bill White on facebook? The man is about as genuine and real as they come. He literally updates his facebook status like 5 times a day with what's going on, even if it's just random stuff about Sports or pop culture. He even sometimes debates people who post stuff on his wall! The dude is the most down to earth and *in touch* of any politician I've seen in my lifetime.
im about as politically jaded as they come, but i will vote for bill white - seems like an honest, hard-working guy who has shown an ability to get divergent groups to work together to get things done. im curious to see how he responds to perry's slimeball tactics and faux good-ol' boyism. i dont see white as the kind of guy who will engage in all that silliness.
This is where the election will be fought. Can White successfully project that message to statewide voters or will Perry's attacks cut him off at the knees? By your choice of words, you seem to be optimistic about White's chances. I hope you are correct but Perry is a nasty political animal and he knows what buttons to press. He and minions will do anything and say anything to win. Not sure if White and his handlers are ready for it.
The only reason Ann Richards got elected was because Clayton Williams put his foot in his mouth. Otherwise he would have won going away. Bill White is starting from a much stronger position than she was even though he's going against an incumbent.
thank you, clayton was winning that race going away until that. richards couldn't even beat a rookie gwb in her bid for re-election no knock on richards, as a female democrat, we were lucky she got one term
Bill White got less than 150,000 fewer votes than Perry yesterday. He dominated the Democratic Primary. Sure, more people voted in the GOP primary. But nearly half of them voted against Perry.
hopefull Perry does not do the mud chunking again. If so I hope WHite will rise above it, that might be able to help him
Can you elaborate on Perry's "acts" and offer some insight on White as well? I don't know much about Texas politics. I know plenty of people hate Perry, though I've never really known why, but there's obviously a lot of people who like him or he wouldn't keep getting voted back into office. People also say that White left Houston with a lot of debt, but I look around the city and I see gobs of progress, which of course costs money, and I'm fine with that, at least on the surface and barring any details I might be unaware of. Am I wrong? Thoughts appreciated, thanks.
