Glad to see some folks who aren't Democrats thinking about Bill White. He would make a great Governor. Lord knows we need a change, and not just a change, but a new direction away from divisive politics. White knows how to pull people together, get a consensus, and get things done. Hell yes, he can beat Perry!
Yes, yes it does. Thank you very much. Isn't that some advantage, because we know who Perry is. Take a map of Texas, slather it in red. Drop a drop of blue in Central Austin, East Houston, and maybe a microdot in Denton. If there is something redder than red, paint that over the central Metroplex, Hurst Euless and Bedford.
He absolutely has a chance. KBH ran an absolutely horrid campaign. Everyone on the state but her staff knows that what Perry calls a surplus becomes a HUGE deficit next year (around $10 billion I believe). Her staff couldn't get out the message that the only way the state balanced the budget this last time around was with stimulus money from Washington. They let the whole forced vaccination thing go. White may not have the slimy charisma that Perry sweats, but I believe moderate voters in this state will realize that a vote for Perry is a vote to keep the status quo for 2 full decades.
Nope, Perry will win and rural Texans will continue to prove that they love to vote against their own interests.
Tell you one thing, if White wants to win this thing, Democrats better step up the get out the vote campaigns. Looking at yesterday’s returns, Republicans had a 2 to 1 advantage of people who showed up at the polls.
I think that had more to do with the fact that White had such a huge lead that there was many who just figured they didn't need to vote. I know on my ballot, it was the only race that was even contested...other than Kinky running for Agriculture Commissioner...which he narrowly lost.
White has a chance because he is very moderate. White would be a republican in the Northeast. I still don't think he will win because Perry will out-Texas him
Bill White is gonna get killed on immigration unfortunately. he is moderate, he is a business owner, he should have a chance even being the democrat, I believe he can win the metropolitan vote but he's gonna killed on immigration.
I would love to think that White could win, but I think there's too much "meh" for H-town in cities like Austin and Dallas that won't care how good a job he's done for Houston. Plus, I don't know that he comes off as confident as he should/needs to in his ads. Oh, and Perry has better hair. I do agree it would take record turnout of people voting for "change" and I don't know that people around here are all that down with Si se puede or any facsimile thereof. I hope I'm wrong, I think he is just what we need.
I cant understate how ****ty KBH ran her campaign. I mean just talking to some of their campaign staff, they dont have a damn clue on how to market, how to compile statistics or even make proper polls. Like they literally sat in the dark, made no effort to actually monitor any sort of progression in the polls and just blindly kept playing it off. How people like this make it to major campaign staffs is just beyond me. I've worked in the field for less than a year and I'm fairly certain I know more than some of the bozos in charge of that campaign. That said, I dont think White has a great chance but Perry frankly is over-confident and foolish enough to mess this up. I'm curious to see what his advertisement strategy will be and how they choose to spend his money. I think that's as big a factor as anything in determining what happens.
If this causes Perry and the Texas Republicans to even further alienate hispanic voters, it could be setting up Democratic gains down the road.
its almost sad how kay bailey was on the defensive this entire campaign [whiney kay bailey voice]Rick Perry says this about me and its just not truuue[/whiney kay bailey voice]
Im republican but I am voting for Bill White. I live in Pearland so never got to vote for him in Houston, but my dad is a Houston firefighter and im in the criminal justice field and he did great things for my friends and family.
so who's closer in ideology to KBH? white or perry? i will be campaigning a lot for mayor bill the next few months.
