it was medina, but she lost out in the primary. kathie glass (libertarian) would certainly be closer to the oscillating tea party agenda than gov good hair. white has the urban and border areas locked in; to win he will either need an even larger than normal turnout in the urban areas voting for him (similar to the 2008 election, but not likely to happen), or he will need to hit perry hard with commercials in the rural areas. although perry is no romney or john kerry, he has several issues that could be targeted for flip flopping, half truths, or just bald faced lies.
Perry's on the attack. Just saw an ad on TV. Blasted White for pocketing money from a company that provided products/services to Katrina victims or something. Not a single thing about real issues. I hate Perry .
the next bill white commercial should say, "rick perry wrong for texas." after blasting white for leaving houston with a budget deficit for mayor parker to deal with, perry has been touting a strong texas economy and a near balanced budget.... rumors have said that we (texas) face a $15B deficit in next years budget, but i saw a matt jackson retweet today from renu khator (UH president) saying that could swell to $25B.
That ad has been running for some time in Central Texas. White has been running an attack ad, but it's still kind of tame. He should be hitting at the projected budget deficit, as ryan_98 pointed out, that could be as high as $25 billion. Not only that, why not a jab at who's paying for 1/2 of the $22 million Governor's Mansion rebuild. That's right, kids, it's the federal government. $11 million of funds given to the state to reimburse for costs associated with Hurricane Ike. That darn evil federal government...
I don't know if many people realize that White is a very intelligent man. Harvard grad and he would be a great governor.. He's been wanting to debate Perry for a long time, but Perry won't because he knows he'd be destroyed. Oh well.. in the end it will probably be the republicans giving it again to Perry.
I am curious but has White been hitting Perry on things that would shake confidence in Perry's base such as Perry's reversal on the Cervical Cancer vaccine? I haven't been in Texas during Perry's time in office but as an outside observer it seems like he has done a lot of things that would not be approved by his socially and fiscally conservative base.
The chance that White upsets Perry is somewhere between a snowball's chance in Hell and DaDakota's chances of beating Yao in a game of one-on-one.
This kind of talk is getting old. White has the best chance of any Democrat since Ann Richard to win the governorship. Bill is savvy, do not underestimate him.
I agree with you and will gladly vote for him. He has the best chance of anyone since Ann Richards, but in Texas, that still leaves him with chances between slim and none.
In every group of friends there is someone with the best chance to score with Jessica Alba. His chances are still pretty low though.
eek, is that true? That should make the folks in Galveston pretty sick, not to mention the rest of the state. I've never cared so much about who's going to be governor. Rick Hairy needs to go.
On a serious note, I hate the way voters think. I heard a poll on the news the other day that said the majority of Texans support term limits for politicians, and I know the Tea Party supports this, yet the same poll shows that the same majority support Rick Perry. As a true believer in term limits it makes me sick that so many Republicans have taken up the term limits argument as a way to attack Democratic incumbents nationally only.
