There is not one person born to date who, by himself, could have shut down Olajuwon.

The Seattle Sonics, with their illegal defense, were really the only thing that could contain him.

it would be like luther head trying to guard lebron. hakeem would easily get 30-40 with 10 dimes on top of that.

seriously though, could hakeem guard lebron?

I'm surprised you'd come out with this thread. You've been around a long time and had to know the reaction you'd get, a reaction that isn't surprising in the least, or wrong, either. And a couple of points I wanted to add is while Dream was around 6'10.5" tall, he couldn't have weighed as little as 240 after his rookie year (when he just might have weighed that much). Most of his career saw him at 250+ and quick as a cat. It would have been fun to watch Akeem and Ron go at each other, if it were somehow possible, but Artest would have been brutalized. Having said that, I'm damn glad the Knicks didn't have Ron on their squad!

In the NBA almost 6'11 to 6'8 is by no means "comparable". You'd think a fan of an NBA team with undersized power forwards would know this. Artest is a good defender because he's physical, but he's not really quick. He also doesn't jump very highand isn't very long. Dream was quick and had a good vertical and length. Ron can push him all he wants, but all Dream has to do is put a quick move on him and he's gone or wide open. Once in the air, there's no way Artest can bother Dream, especially since Dream's shooting form is high.

The height difference is more like 6'11 vs 6'7 rather than 6'10 vs 6'9.

And Hakeem was listed at 255 lb in his prime, wasn't he? He probably weighed in a bit more than that in the second half of his career.

If Dennis Rodman couldn't (switched onto Hakeem a lot), why would Ron? This is a r****ded thread and you know it.

Even the 1985 Chicago Bears wouldn't be able to contain a mini hakeem.

Love this thread. It's freaking hilarious. The funniest part is that the OP actually posted again trying to convince us.

Parrish, McHale, Bird, Walton, and Greg (Six Fouls) Kite couldn't contain Dream. He went through and over them, averaging 25 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks for the 1986 Finals. That's four HOFers and a first rate hatchet man.

And people think Artest by himself could stop Dream?

    Ridiculous.

Did Artest sign your jersey or something? Did Hakeem not?

I hope you're not the original person on the account. Seriously. If some of the better bigs to ever play the game couldn't do it, how in the world do you expect Ron Artest to? I mean the guy is a good defender and all but...

    It's the Dream.

    Sad really. :(

BTW rimrocker that's a sexy pic.

    EDIT: Some mental imagery:

I can see Dream guarding Artest out on the perimiter, and dismantling him if he gets into the post.

I CAN'T see Artest stopping Dream from backing him down, spinning off him, and crushing it on his head. It's not fair to Artest's image as a good defender to think such thoughts though...

Chuck Norris shivers at the thought of guarding Hakeem.
